Namco Bandai's Mr. Driller faux pas: Inexcusable or harmless?

Namco Bandai creates and thwarts their own PR disaster within the space of a weekend

No, I don't see the harm, but unfortunately not everyone would see it this way due to living with blinkers on. I truly doubt any insensitivity was meant from Namco, just a clever association using one of the game characters and not some elaborate plan to cash in on the tragedy.

But there are people who will use any opportunity to attack the gaming world for the evil and hatred they represent.

I think the reason was this ..

Here you have a Mr Driller "Read it as Mining employee"
welcoming the miners back..
Read it as welcome back to the mine and not welcome back to the surface.
(Welcome back to work perhaps ?)
I guess someone felt it sent the message that they would be expected to go right back to work and Bandai decided to retract the poster.

This is my guess ..
I dont see any other reason for it potentially insulting anyone ?

Anyone else care to venture a guess ?

Some of the miners might have felt that the pink helmet was not representative of their own attire.

Maybe it's just people being full of shit and looking for an excuse to get their 27 seconds of media glory.

Personally I think it was a clever and touching way of saying welcome back. From one miner to another, knowing of the hardships etc that miners go through. Yes, he is only a freaking game character, but so what. It's the thought that counts.
