    Final Fantasy XIV review (MyGaming)

What has Square-Enix learnt from their previous Final Fantasy MMO? It would seem nothing

FFXI still had great content if you could stomach the leveling. FFXIV is just so broken on so many levels right now that it is painful to play. Square-Enix should have learned something from FFXI, but failed miserably. FFXIV is a chore to learn (like FFXI) in the beginning which is atrocious. There is a difference between a HARD learning curve (like say EVE), and "How do I open this menu, or activate this thing?" learning curve. You need to Google for almost all your info, even the mundane. Couple with no alt+tab function (it crashes) and it is yet another frustration in FFXIV.

There are Behests, which are like small events at outposts that pop-up every so often, but I always seemed to miss them
Just as a FYI, these show up at every camp every hour, on the hour. Battlewarden sticks around in camp for about 5 minutes then the behest starts.

You didn't mention the repair mechanic.....particularly related to undergarments. You have to remove the piece of gear you need to repair. But, oh, wait, you cant remove the undergarments, cus then you would be nekkid!

For some reason though, despite everything.... I'm still enjoying it thusfar. Market is messed up, but getting better, with more updates coming in the next month or two (two big patches scheduled for Nov and Dec). Maybe I just a) have a lot of patience, b) am completely masochistic, or c) play far too casually to really care.

But, the main thing I agree with is......this just feels like a beta for the PS3 version.

There is a pathetic (almost hidden) tutorial ingame, but it is so lacking in many regards.

Let's see... the manual, where did I leave it...? Ah! Okay. It has story, some background for characters and the cities. Then creating an account, key-layout, game settings and then finally some info on creating a character. That's pretty much it. Nothing about crafting, gathering, questing, selling items, stats, resistances, pretty much anything to do with gameplay mechanics. And like I said, there is a weak and lacking tutorial, but as a player you are not directed to them / it, and they don't help all that much.

Really, there is so much wrong with this game, that every time I think, I find something else. Odd thing is I want to like it, and I do on some levels (that is why I am playing it still), but really, this game has progressed little from FFXI and old'd MMO's and not in a good way. Look, I do not expect a WoW clone nor an easy game, in fact I want something challenging, but FFXIV is hard in the WRONG ways. And lacking to boot.

There was more wrong with the game than I had space to include to be honest. I just went with what got to me the most.

Main reason I play in windowed mode.... would be struggling a lot more if I wasn't :P

Luckily my machine can handle it.....which also means I don't have as much interface lag. Its still there, but just not as bad.
