I've not played a Flight Sim since they stole my joystick in 2009, and I love IL-2

I actually enjoy MS FS quite a lot, I have most(if not all) of the SA scenery, a lot of SA AI aircraft including the entire SAAF fleet, which provides some nice eye candy when I am flying around.
I am past the stage of trying to fly a Boeing underneath a bridge and other such stunts, instead I use the Nav aids, follow the rules and so forth, mostly large bodies such as the C-130, A400M and the Embraer range. I also fly air displays with a L-39c, I even had my routine checked by real flight safety officers.

I recently switched to FSX and I like it a lot, I'm just angry that in most cases I have to pay again for the aircraft.X-Plane is quite advanced, people say that MS FS is a game, while X-Plane is a simulator.

    Nice comments dude!

I have to disagree with the X-Plane statement. I own both and from a simulation point of view X-Plane is way behind. I can do a vertical 360 in a straight line with a plan in X-plane and still survive . ... FSX would basically tell you to stuff off if you even thought about that.

I installed REX2.0 for FSX last night and it does a lot for the game - I highly recommend it!

Well, I do not use X-plane personally, I just saw people talk about it, so my comment is not based on personal experience. I am planning to get REX, I used the company's software for FS2004 and it really made a big difference. However since I need to buy a bunch of aircraft again for FSX, I reckon it will just have to wait a bit.

Kinda makes me feel bad for flying into the twin towers as a kid and laughing at it in I think it was MS FS 95 haha, was before 9/11.

People with FSX should try out an addon called TileProxy. What it does is downloads textures from map services such as yahoo (google has blocked theirs) and applies these textures in the area you're flying in with fantastic results. The only downside is that it "overwrites" autogen trees and buildings, but this gets offset by the fact that you can actually fly over your house!

It's a bit tricky to setup (especially in Win 7 due to it unsigned driver restriction), but there are tutorials to help. Win 7 users will need to reboot their system, hit F8 at startup and select "Disable unsigned driver restriction". Then either disable UAC or set all exe's to run as administrator.

    Fast internet (2MB+) is recommended.
