Thread: Fallout 3 mod suggestions

    Default Fallout 3 mod suggestions

    Hi, I just bought Fallout 3 GotY. Sites like planetfallout and fallout3nexus have a rather crazy selection of mods. (I used to play Oblivion with over 3 gigs of mods running simultaneously).

    Anyone come across any unique mods for FO3?

    I'm not looking for companion/nudity/stupid/quest/pointless mods. More along the lines of complete overhaul mods. (Apocalypse Armory, EVE, FWE, Fellout, Marts Mutant Mod...) Y'know, stuff that will add content, alter gameplay, enhance visuals and add whole new sets of weapons or enemies, etc.

    Anyone with suggestions?

    Thanx.

    I've got a couple that I personally use.

    Fallout Wanderers edition

    Fallout 3 Wanderers Edition (FWE) is a major overhaul mod for Fallout 3 that changes underlying game mechanics and adds new features to the game. The aim of the mod is to improving the challenge, sense of immersion, depth of gameplay, and range of options compared the vanilla game. Generally, you'll find the wasteland to be a more dynamic but far less forgiving place.

    FWE's development is guided by two objectives. The first is to enhance the First-Person-Shooter (FPS) elements of the game (while still preserving non-FPS options). This includes making combat faster paced, exciting, and more player-skill based. The second objective is to enhance the role-playing elements of the game by emphasizing choices and consequences, balance, character development, immersion, and the range of viable options. Both these objectives aim to increase the replay value of Fallout 3.

    In FWE 6.0 MANY of FWE's features from prior versions and new to 5.0 are now customizable or ON/OFF toggle-able. Configurable changes will be highlighted in the description below.

    For a comprehensive description of changes and usage, please refer to the full documentation provided in the FWE download. This is located in the "FWE Docs" folder of the download files.

    ------------------------
    OVERALL GOALS
    ------------------------

    Richer character development + RPG experience where SPECIAL, skill, and Perk choices matter more
    Faster paced and more unforgiving combat for an enhanced FPS experience
    Greatly improved the "survival" aspect of the game, including injuries, loot rarity, and daily needs
    New equipment and a complete rebalance of all weapons, armor, and other gear
    Improvements to the diversity, character, and behavior of many actors, factions, and creatures
    Overall a more immersive game experience
    In-game "Control Panel" and optional modules allow you to configure FWE to your preferred playstyle
    Compatiblity support for other popular mods including MMM, WMK, EVE and Project Beauty

    Fallout 3 FOOK MOD.

    FOOK2 is a complete overhaul of FO3. It adds hundreads of news items (weapons, armor, clutter, food etc.), has high quality retextures for many vanilla items and many new gameplay features.

    On top of this are all items completly rebalanced and fully integrated into the game and it has also support for ALL DLC's.

    Fallout3 Tactics Plugin

    Welcome and have an interesting time.

    This plugin is a wide range additional, that adds new game mechanics, npcs with new dialouges, firearms, animals, monsters and locations, quests, new parts for the old quests, new dialouge to many Npcs, new encounters and (oh my god - that was a bunch of work), the feature to modifiy the most things this plugin contains. Doing so defines the way you have to act. That's why i called it "tactics". So there's no relation to Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of steel in here. Oh, and you won't find modern projectile weapons in here.

    Marts Mutant Mod

    This mod is a port of MMM from Oblivion to Fallout 3. It focuses on adding a huge range of diversity to creatures and NPCs in the Fallout 3 world as well as adding new and unique creatures and NPCs to encounter. The mod is broken down into a core base and a range of optional modules.

    The key results the mod achieves are:

    * Every creature and NPC is unique with its own stats, size, confidence, health, damage and even skin (texture)
    * Creatures and NPCs suffer improved wounding effects such as visible bleedng and statistic penalties
    * Creatures and NPCs can loot the corpses of fallen enemies, afterwhich you can find this loot if you kill them
    * Creatures and NPCs have improved behavioural AI based on class -- in any given group some may be aggressive towards you, some may be ambivalent, and others may avoid you outright.
    * Configurable increased spawns allow you tailor how many creatures and NPCs spawn in the game at any given spawn point
    * Improved faction system to better reflect inter-faction relations and ensure the player isn't the center of the universe
    * New creatures and NPCs to add variety to the wasteland -- all hand-crafted with their own stats, abilities, loot, weapons, textures and in some cases scripted AI behaviour.

    Owned

    This mod aims to make the game more realistic. I always found it annoying that when I killed
    The owner(s) of a property, I still could not sleep, take stuff and store away my items without
    some kind of punishment for doing so.

    This mod corrects these flaws that are so prevalent in the original game.
    Now when you kill the owner(s) of a property, you will get full privilege to everything in
    the house including the beds, the items and storage without any negative effects (beside a dose
    of bad karma of course).

    Enhanced Weather

    Remaining true to Bethesda's vision of a polluted/radioactive/post-apocalyptic world, Dynamic Weather 2.0 presents a more natural, progressively changing, weather system. Utilizing Bethesda's original weather types, my own custom weather types and assets from Skindgrad's Enhanced Weather, Dynamic Weather includes Rainstorms, Lightning Storms as well as Fog and Sandstorms.

    In varying degrees and depending on cloud cover, Dynamic Weather has much darker nights than Vanilla Fallout 3. If you're crazy enough to brave the night then you will need some form of Night Vision (Night Vision Goggles/Night Ghoul Eyes (Mart's Mutant Mod)).

    Megaton expanded

    ===============
    Description:
    ===============

    When wastelanders tried to enter Vault 101 but failed to gain access, they built Megaton. During the years after it was founded, the town grew in size. This mod makes Megaton a place with enough room for hundreds of people.

    ================
    In-Game Details:
    ================

    > Expands the size of Megaton Inside, its about 3 to 4 times larger.
    > Adds about 20 new buildings to the Outside areas, and more than 40 to the Inside area
    > Adds more than 50 new NPCs to the new areas
    > Scavengers sell their stuff at the new marketplace during the day

    I went further and added additional building mods, and travelers in the wasteland with more caravans etc, just to populate the world a bit

    Wow, awesome list Maplassie. I would try this if I had the time. Currently busy with New Vegas though, I'm sure they'll release these for it too.

    Have you tried all of these mods together? Did you encounter any issues?

    Some of them have some overlapping compatibility issues, but mostly they have small patch files (located in the download locations) that rectify compatibility issues with other major mods

    Maplassie, you are a legend! This is exactly what I was looking for! I remember in oblivion, I had a full Arthas Lich King armour and weapon set, as well as a metal gear themed player. All my cities were part of the open world (enemies, monsters could enter cities, no loading upon city entry)

    Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul, Martigens Monster Mod, Modular Oblivion Enhanced to name a few ... People dont realise, how playing an open world- sandbox game with so many mods changes and enhances the entire experience.

    Hopefully we can keep updating this thread with any good/interesting mods we come across for Fallout/New Vegas.

    It's true what you say. Oblivion is awesome with some decent mods applied. Specially the deadly reflex combat mod, you HAVE to check that one out. adds like 30-40 combat moves and counters, even add's Horseback combat!

    I made one for oblivion as well a while back
