i've tried that scenario with onboard on, creative disabled and creative on with onboard disabled. quite sure i've might have broken something in the os which by chance fallout new vegas has an issue with. i'm going to reinstall and then try vegas just after sound, vga and dx is installed to see if it was software related. besides that would make for more proper debugging *if* it was one or both of the sound cards.

not my problem i can't be given a name on myBB that had just 1 spam post in it and has been inactive for months. to keep continuity i had to go with a html special character. besides going to be daft if its looks different on myb, myg, xlive and steam, don't you think ?

Ag dude, get the hell over yourself.

I'm surprised you haven't ran into issues before with your Soundcard-SLI trick. Fact of the matter is, if you have a dedicated soundcard installed like a VERY finicky Creative card, you generally turn off the onboard soundcard that came along with your motherboard. I don't care what you say, it's common practice. And to me you were being a noob running it the way you were. Period.

I have an anboard soundcard and a creative 5.1 sound card and i never disabled anything... not sure how its suppose to be common practice.

had 2 sound card (and btw it's not sli, go research on more than one sound card) for years now without issues. as i've noted i might have broken something in the os as i do a lot of what you might fright and call uncommon...

    so os reinstalled and

    1) updated till there is no more updates windows update
    2) installed dx redist from vega's folder
    3) installed vs redist from vega's folder

i didn't use any other updates, patches or drivers except which came through windows update.

    4) both intel HD and creative running

game run without issue. which says that the OS was borked in some special way before this one and that "sli audio" (though you don't get such a thing at all) wasn't the issue.

sadly i'll never know what inside the OS caused the issued now as it was just that and nothing more *shurgs*

    :edit
on a closing note, i think i've found the original issue as i was able to successfully re-create the symptoms of the old os and fallout.

after the clean install, i installed latest nvidia drivers from their site and few other things and updated which was not given via windows update. then i went to my nvidia console and started to revert all my settings as it was before the reload.

found the problem with Multi-display/mixed-gpu acceleration. when not on single display performance mode it goes crashing as it was, if i set it to single it's fine.
