Xbox Live SA - Is it worth migrating?

For me personally no, there is little to no motivation to migrate my account. The lack of Zune support is particularly bothersome as I have a decent sized video library on the old box and the idea of loosing this, as you need to sign into Zune to view them, is not helping.

I can, to a degree, understand the heftyer pricetag as MS propably needs to install the needed infrastructure and is budgeting for it thusly.

And lastly with the looming possibility of actually moving back to the UK makes the idea of migrating irrelevant.

Local content servers, i dunno. I imagien there being some infrastructure involved in making it a locally accesable. When using an int accoutn you are basically piggybacking onto their infrastructure. Or thats how my think it works, I could be completely and utterly wrong. It has happened before.

Just stock up on points and subs before you migtrate. As for you Omega, maybe you should stay foreign.

I think if people migrate it will show them we are here and give reason to up there support.

I agree with you there, my biggest fear is that due to these prices local gamers opt to rather stay on their int account and basically showing MS here isn't that big of a market resulting in local Live remaining this limited service.

Anyone else notice that the IP ban was lifted over a week ago? Never been able to download Doom 2 before.... but last weekend... WoooT.... doom!

Since I've got a UK and US based account, I might actually move my US based account over just to see what it's like. But my UK account isn't going anywhere :D

i switched, but only because i had nothing to lose really :p

no dlc and only 5k GS

I think I'll go the route of creating a new profile. While I don't have a lot of GS, I do have quite a bit of DLC.

I fail to see the logic behind migrating to Xbox Live in ZA. M$ does not need reminding that there are some ZA users on their network; they can see connections coming in from IPs from the South African block. If anything, migrating to this pretty crappy offering will convince them that we here in SA are desperate for ANY offering, no matter how useless compared to the rest of the world. If they see that everybody hanging on to their UK/US accounts hopefully they will realise that they've made the investment in infrastructure now and if they want to see ROI they had better produce the goods!

MS have admitted that the higher pricetag is due to 'import duties'. They're probably paying VAT at 14% at least and a further 20%. It seems silly to have to pay that for a piece of paper with a barcode on it, but whoomp, there it is. And of course, MS EMEA absolutely HATE cutting prices to match an emerging market eceonomy. Who can remember when we had to pay R500 for Dungeon Siege and Freelancer ON THE PC??

Import duties on digital goods??

I repeat:

????

The content isn't even hosted locally, so they don't have to pay the high SA bandwidth costs. 5 years of waiting and MS practically just spat in your face.

Alastorr - we didn't see this last email so we started a different thread - we think it will be more visible in the main Arcade queue - as this is our main gripe (amongst other gripes). Link is here:

So far it doesn't seem like many people have much fight in them though.

Guys - please add if you are dissatisfied.
