Sorry, but no. Microsoft SA certainly missed an opportunity here to wow their South African XBOX customers and seriously, it actually looks like they just don't give a damn. It looks like they launched it because they HAD to.

I see no reason to migrate. I actually don't even see a reason to create a second account to try it out, though there's value in that just to try and bump the numbers and show some interest. Maybe it'll motivate them to try to do better.

I can see MSSA getting all sulky about the lack of uptake and then using it to justify letting XBLSA gather dust, but it's their own fault. XBLSA could and should have been done better. The lack of content alone is a massive fail. If we'd at least had equivalent content, then the pricing of the subs and points would not have been so attrocious.

The thing I was initially afraid of when I heard about the launch was that the Film And Publications Board has been the speedbump to progress for a number of content providers locally. They're the reason we don't have all the iTunes content. They're the reason we don't have an Android market. They're the reason all cell-phone content providers charge an arm and a leg. EVERY title on EVERY platform must be registered with the FPB. At a nice charge to the publisher/distributor. They've got a nice money-making racket going on there in the name of nannying the SA public. I wouldn't be surprised if MSSA has to pay the FPB for every title on the XBL market and if you consider the price of the games, it really wouldn't be worth registering games when you have no idea if they'll sell.

Still, this does not excuse the dearth of add-on content. One would expect that the games they support would already have been registered with the FPB and that section of the Market would be way more densely populated.

Beent hinking last night, It's probably better launching with two XBLA games and added them steadily. Gives each game it's moment in the spotlight rather than flooding the marketplace.

Perhaps. Though I suspect that most of the people who are interested in the XBLSA account already have a UK account and will be used to the UK market's density. It feels like walking into a newly launched Woolworths Food store with rows and rows of empty shelves. Who'll ever come back after a launch like that? Who runs marketing over there at Microsoft? You launch something new and you launch it HARD. I actually can't believe that they're "still adding content". Did they miss their own launch deadline or something?
