Debate: Are video games dumbing down movie audiences?

All good movies with deep narratives.
However many titles, alot of which are shooters (and I count my beloved Halo among these) is more about shooting for shootings sake. Titles like Heavy Rain, Mass Effect or any other narrative focused titles often fare far worse in sales than their mindless counterparts. Why? Well the same people who labeled Inception too "intimidating" probably stood first in the que for The Expendables or something and loving nothing more than their brainless shooter.
Then again I thought we had already come to the conclusion that 90% of the human race are idiots....

Hollywoods movies are bad because Hollywood pours money into endless remakes and pointless sequels while cashing in as much as they can on pop culture (Twilight anybody?).
They know where the money is, and they're out to get it. If anyone is to blame, it's Hollywood themselves.
Maybe Thornton should do some voice work if he feels so neglected.

That movie has got to have some of the worst "comedy" writing in recent history.
Yet, Hollywood greenlights it.

Um, no, video games and movies are two different industries. It's kind of like saying that the yoghurt industry is dumbing down the milkshake or milk industry. It just doesn't make sense. The only reason why things may be shite these days is because of changing consumer demand. Even if games have something to do with that then they must just suck it up and deal with it.

Movies and Games are made to sell to the populace. Judging by the popularity of games and movies like Transformers and COD Black Ops people want soulless dumb downed mass produced products.
Whatever happened to subtlety? It's just an orgy of mindless over the top action.
It's a sad indictment on the current generation of gamers and things aren't going to get better. Just watch the shows aimed young kids today. It's as if the characters are all on crack. No wonder kids are diagnosed with ADHD and pop Ritalin and SSRIs like sweets.

Maybe he is just trajically misunderstood... he did give us a awesome Kristanna Loken sex scene in Blood Ryan... too bad the rest of the movie sucked.
I have a rule: If it has Will Ferrel, Tom Cruise or that guy from Walk Hard in I avoid it.
There are some epically underated comedies out there: Fanboys is simple AWESOME. Scott Pilgrim vs The World is cult classic material, Kick Ass.
I think Mr Thornton is just an idiot....

Whatever it is, he is responsible for some great comedy moments. Like Tara Reid in Alone In the Dark - a scientist barely able to pronounce half the scientific terms ..
Tom Cruise was good in Valkyrie (although miscast) and Will Ferrell - don't find him funny AT ALL. Just like Adam Sandler.

I'd be more inclined to say movie audiences are dumbing down games. They make das Ãœber shiny crap like avatar with 3D and than every other videogame has to look just as shiny with 3D and than very little effort is put into the game itself.

He does have it partly right though, movies and even TV series are getting dumber and kids are to blame. Most kids are busy in thier I-phones with facebook or twitter or whatever and TV shows are made to need the least amount of attention to be able to follow.
Stargate Univerce or Caprica being some prime examples, you only really need to look at the screen every once in a while and the rest of the time you can follow everything just by listening.

There is the truth. Yeah come to think about it all era's of movies have allot of crap. Just the older era's have been filter through out the years.
