Sony's PS3 warranty program

on most goods I have purchased and not just sony I have seen atleast a minimum of a 3yr warranty and thats what every company with products like this should have not only will it save money but if there are certain main components needing replacements then all you do is pay a small portion... something like a maintenance plan or Insurance plan if you catch my drift :rolleyes:
 
Thank you very much for this article. After my Xbox RROD'd and my warranty experience was nothing short of pathetic (this was right in the middle of the SA Xbox distributor going bust, and I waited more than 2 months for my replacement if memory serves), I promised myself my next big ticket item expenditure would be a PS3 since it seems to have a much better track record. After reading this article, I think I'll wait and see regarding that 3 year warranty you spoke of before buying that PS3 I last after so deeply.
 
For the price of the console it should be at leasat 24 months. I think thats fair enough. 12 months is a joke because inevitably it will break in the 13th month :/
 
My first concsole broke after 2 years 6months, that was pretty long considering it was a 60GB console and had blu-ray read failure the lens was heating up and the console would freeze. I was happy that i got me a new 120Gb in septemmber and had no issues since then even got my 60Gb machine back and use it as a blu-ray/dvd player in my front room.
 
As for the 2 year or 3 year warranty it would be a nice thing to have, on a PS3 but most people wont even use it. As the console doesnt break down as much as the internet says it does. THe Xbox on the other hand breaks quite a bit and i do understand the need for the warranty.
