Aion - General Discussion

lol. well its ok for now. definitly better than Aoc or Wow for me.

i find it hard to admit but i'm quite sure that wow is a superior game.

i'm gonna get flamed to hell and back for this next comment but here it goes anyway  ..... i find wow's graphics easier on the eye than aion's.... in theory aion's graphics are superior but all the she-males running around + general look and feel of the world kinda got to me.

animations sucked as well as sound effects especially in combat. i got drawn into the hype and wasted 400 bucks

***FLAME***

Okay ... flamings done.

I prefer the look of Aion over that of WoW frankly.

Not going to compare anything else since I've never been drawn to WoW whatsoever - part of that would be the fact that I hate the whole Warcraft franchise to start with.

And so the wheels fall off of the bus :p

Not really.

But I think, a lot of the people who are making loud noises about the recent update fiasco (tanked the Euro servers for about 12 hours) - seem to forget that no MMO has had a seamless release.

Going by what one guy posted, he's played numerous MMOs from the beginning - including WoW - and from his point of view Aion has had the smoothest release he can remember.

WoW is 6 or 7 years old - obviously they've worked out all the bugs by now. Aion only has 2 months on the clock.

Yes - Aion has its irritants - such as bots stealing the quest mobs (a level 19 cleric can't outdamage a level 22 gladiator after all), incessant gold-seller spam etc - it comes with the territory.

I'm surprised by the number of WoW fanboys who seem to find sitting on Aion and complaining about how bad it is more entertaining than actually going and actually playing WoW. Doesn't really push me into ever trying it.

If you don't like a game, leave it. Go somewhere else. Everybody has their own opinion and forcing yours on them is unnecessary and unappreciated. If you feel you wasted money buying the game and going for the hype - well, that's sad. I'm sure it isn't the first time - and it probably won't be the last.

It's happened to me as well ... fortunately, for myself, Aion lived up to my expectations.

[/end rant]

I was very impressed with Aion, but I will digress - the movement irritates me.

What I mean is, to move from one place to another is just such a flippen mission. Flight points costs crazy amounts of money and are few and far between. Running through areas is impossible with mobs around and dying is a huge schlep.

I would have the same problem with Guild Wars if they did not have instant Map Travel.

What I enjoyed most about WoW was roaming around aimlessly through areas without dying constantly and pulling aggro from 10,000 mobs. It had its serenity that I could not find in Aion.

such a lazy ass :D, dude when i started to a play online game (nwn1, waterdeep) we had to RUN all the way and back. there was no teleporting from, to the leader or back to town. if you died, tough luck you have to rerun all the way. not to mention the gm at that time running it limited the bloody gold you could get from the seller as well as the total amount of healing potions till next server reboot.

for gold, well go play aion 'ah' for it ;).

most of the issues i would say is misconception and wrongfully expectations. you can't for example expect a "western" mmo when it clearly was made for and firstly by easterners as well as tones and elements kept from GW. most people seem to forget this. just to point out two things:
a) roaming mobs and a lot of them as it was with GW.
b) funny/'girly' toony graphics with overwhelming fantasy touches to it as with most korean or jrpgs.

yes aion is f****** expensive. it is by far the most expensive mmo i've played to date and you will have to work for mats, money and leveling. i mean geez it is 3500 kinah per profession not like casual-joe-wow mere 10 gold to start off with. though i've yet to have a real cash problem yet anyways.

shadowfox: aion has been realistically running 1 year prior in korea and that is why it is so smooth at launch in the west and yes how long is wow in the running, how much time did blizzard have to sort out their problems ? quite a long time has passed for them since their initial launch and oh boy it was a shaky ride in the beginning...

...i'm totally bought into aion. for it is specifically the 'eastern/korean' touch i like in the game it self. it sucks me in and at least can hold my imagination and attention. if a game can't do that rather go try something else :)

i can't however wait for these to try out
secret world
knights of old republic
star trek
mortal online
huxley
guild wars 2

i have finally quite my hellgate korean account why ? because hanbit soft has taken away all the difficulty levels and made it two being normal and hardcore. so no more elite or elite hardcore which as about the only reason why i kept my hellgate account was to be able to finished the damned thing on hard core elite nightmare after a hard core elite run. not to mention being able to run around stone henge on those difficulty levels with group and seeing how far we can push it.

Okay ... you're right - that particular point did slip my mind, to be honest.

But - yes ... I find Aion to be tremendously easy on the eye. I have no trouble admitting that I'm a dedicated anime-junkie - so it plays to my tastes obviously.

Of course, I'm also keen to try out some of the others you've listed ... they could quite possibly pull me away from Aion - you never know. And I'm breathlessly waiting for Guild Wars 2 of course.

Necuno - you're right about KOTOR ... the fact that I played KOTOR II for 32 hours without break should be testament to the game's awesomeness.

Man I so miss not being able to play this or any other online game.

I take a break earlier this year from my MMORPG addiction and wait for Aion to hit. I pre-order the CE version and it arrives Sept 25th. Sept 28th my ADSL starts giving trouble, and it has never been the same again even with all my ranting at Telkom. Looks like my MMO-ing days are over for now... *long sigh*

On a good note, maybe one day when I finally can play again the genre will feel fresh and new again, instead of this syndrome continually comparing a game to previous MMO(s) *Cough WoW-Fanbois Cough*. Seems most people that keep saying. "WoW is teh best!!1" are mainly the people that started with the genre with WoW, and often ones first love is always viewed with utter bias.

Anyways, have fun with Aion.. sniff. Any level 50's? Or you all just slackers? ^_^

I'm a slacker :p

Or maybe not :D I have 6 alts -

Chanter 25
Cleric 21
Spiritmaster 19
Gladiator 16
Sorcerer 13
Assassin 14

If you added the XP for that lot together I'd probably have been in the 40's if I'd been focusing on one char. But I like experimenting too much ;)

been playing with my elyos assassin and its not so bad. did lvl 11-14 and it was quite fun :)

i think my top 3 fav classes in order are
1] chanter
2] sorcerer
3] assassin

I'm depressed by the recent MMO releases. It seems as if I'm stuck in a bit of a rutt with regards to finding anything to play that will keep me interested.

Really can't wait for Star Wars: The Old Republic.

I played KOTOR2 for 32hrs straight...so if it's anything remotely as awesome, it'll be kief!

then take a break from the scene as a whole. go play some SP for month or 3.
