More DotA lol...
Although this one will have a delay, no leaver protection etc.

The actual official announcement:

What's interesting, is that I see two new models in the screenshot.

Nope. I don't see the point to this. Waiting patiently for DotA2 thanks. Blizzard waited until another developer FINALLY took the time to give people something that they wanted and now they want to quickly try and make amends with this half-faced effort?

Sorry Blizzard. Your "it's ready when it's ready" tactic screwed you this time and Valve beat you to the punch. Though luck.

This smells of one big damage control operation.

Yes, it is.
Blizzard highly underestimated the Dota genre.
It may just be a niche genre but it is one huge niche.

Blizzard - late comer (felt contented with increased WC3 sales thanks to Dota, did not make a stand-alone Dota game)

I see Dota 2 and HoN as the only surviving Dota genre games when they all go head to head.
S2 Games and Valve have the tools to succeed.

What I like about these Dota communities? Rabid fan bases.

Case in point, scroll down to the comments at Neutralcreeps: Blizzard Dota Announcement

While you're at it, look at HoN's page on Facebook: almost half a million now for an indie game -
http://www.facebook.com/heroesofnewerth

Compare it to: http://www.facebook.com/starcraft (major game company)

heroes of newerth is basically dota2,exact same dota with updated graphics,im not a dota fan but im quite keen to try this SC2 dota out, prefer the SC characters far more than the WC characters.

The Facebook page is hardly a good comparison.

HoN - 439 561
LoL - 421 384
SC2 - 548 666

First off - SC2 is a different type of game to DotA/HoN/LoL; and second, SC2 spanks both HoN and LoL (and will do the same to DOTA2) just because it's Blizzard. Remember, they are just releasing a map for SC2, it's not like it's a fully fledged game.
