Can't get hold of Crative X-fi xtreme Gamer

Seems like no one can get hold of this card. Any other card you guys can suggest me that's round about R1k. It must support at least EAX 5.0

Just avoid the Xtreme Audio card, it doesn't even use an x-fi chip so games don't recognize it as x-fi; it's basically an Audigy SE. I got burnt and had to switch back to my Audigy 4 which is still going strong.

Jup, avoid that card - yeah you're going to struggle now to find a non-pciexpress Creative X-Fi. And they all seem to be around the R1800 mark .... soz mate

Major supply issues with the X-FI in SA atm. Only a very few places have stock, and those that do have stock only appear to have the high-end cards available :(

Not major suplly issues, creative products are not available in SA anymore the distributor for Creative or Creative SA has been liquidated a while back and all creative products have been discontinued in SA until further notice. All the creative suppliers are saying the samething. Those that have stock, have old stock. My suggestion look esle where for a soundcard.

That's what I heard as well. :( Wanted to get myself an X-Fi but no-one has. The Asus sound cards have been getting good reviews tho, so that might be the way to go.

That would fall under the heading "major supply issues" ;)

Some brick and mortar shops still have stock of the newish stuff though. It is expensive and hard-to-find though.

For now, I'd look at something like the Asus Xonar series.

"Masked Ichingo" What do you mean. I haven't received it yet. still have to get my card today. Will let you know how it compares to the onboard realtek HD ALC888 Audio. I'm sure it will be a lot better.

I got my D1 today, after ordering it like 2 and a half weeks ago, lol. Well I didn't order it, a friend of mine was like, "Hey dude, I'm thinking of ordering from Take2, you want in, and we can split delivery costs." So I thought, cool we both save some money on delivery, sweet, and let him know what I want. But he neglets to tell me that he's ordering something from the states, and so everything will take 2+ weeks.

Eventually stuff comes today, I go round to pick up my stuff from him. What he ordered from US that made everything take forever: Speed Racer Boxed set.

Anyway, irrelevant stuff aside, card is great. Used boxed drivers (end of month D: ), have Logitech X-540 5.1 speakers, feel well used for the first time. Played a couple of games so far. Mass Effect soo much better, sound feels far more around you: squad behind, enemies in front, better quality audio too, great. Section 8, same sort of thing (though it has no hardware sound setting), better bass, clearer audio. Gonna try OF: DR just now. :)

Rectron should still have stock of the x-fi extreme gamer. its hard to find these cards now, since rectron only has limited stock of it, frontosa and axiz have nothing... But have you ever checked out the Asus Xonar cards? apparently they are very good sound cards, check out the Asus Essence ST, that is probably the best card on the market if you definately want qaulity, although it is only 2 channel a daughter board will be released sooon to extend that to 7.1 multichannel. Everyone has been raving about it

Wow I got my Asus xonar D1 and its awesome. The Dolby virtual works great. I have just one problem with it they implemented the 5.1 wrong. 2 x front, 1 x center and 2 x side. It should be 2 x front, 1 x center and 2 back. I fixed it by setting my speaker setup to 7.1 and disabling the side speakers.

I also tested this on my Steelseries Siberia headset and it works amazing. The dolby headphone feature works really well.

Tested some games like cod4, farcry2 and its amazing how crap a onboard sound card is. Imagine paring this with a Z5500 speaker system. You can find this card for R705 at www.comx.co.za and I think its a very good price.
