Couch coop / Split screen

Carrying on from the thread at Online specials: Steam, Greenman Gaming, GamersGate, etc, I was wondering what other people think of split screen gaming.

Ooh, how I hate split screen games!!! Sorry, My Own Opinion.

Couldnt agree more

Hence why i have 2 decent gaming machines next to each other ^_^

I take my Pc to a friends house and we hook it up to his 50" tv and play some coop. On something that big it's like you each have your own 25" monitor. I have also done this with a projector on a 5m x 3m wall. The only problem is the distinct lack of coop games available on PC.

I have heard of a 3d LG TV that allows you to plug two sources in, and then one person gets the right channel and the other the left. That way you both get to use the entire 50" tv as your monitor. (or your wife can watch Dr Phil, while you play some dark souls) Flipping genius that.

Although mentioned elsewhere, heres what we play together (co-op or no):
Cod MW2 spec ops - FPS
Fifa 13 - sports
Van helsing 1,2 (just bought 2 in bundle, so we lowered difficulty in 1 and are just doing story...1 has some unfixed bugs in co op :/)
Insurgency COOP server - FPS
Left for dead 2 - FPS
Alien Swarm (free) -top down shooter
Risk of Rain - 2d platform
Path of Exile (free) - ARPG (diablo type)
Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light (finished main story now tho) - ARPG (sp diablo type?)
Battlefield 3 -FPS

Some we play more often than others, but our "ritual" is first game (and usually last game before he goes) is a fifa :D

So those are some nice co-op, or at least 2 player type games that are (or were at some point) fairly cheap or even free

Trine 1 and 2 can be played in local coop. I remember plugging in 2 mouses and 2 keyboards into my PC and hooking it up to the TV as it allowed you to use multiple periphs (at least for the first Trine - T2 I played online coop). It was good fun.

I prefer hotseat over splitscreen. I hate splitscreen. except for Rocket League, that splitscreen isn't too bad

Now how the hell do you get THAT right. I've never gotten a pc game to read 2 keyboards or mice as seperate devices...

It's actually one of the game's features. The only hassle we had was that we couldn't control which mouse it paired up each keyboard, so I landed up using my mouse with my friend's keyboard as player 1 andhe had my keyboard with his mouse. Aside from that it worked well.

That's a good list. I take it some of those games, like COD need two PCs right.

These are the games we play split screen:
Serious Sam 3
Serious Sam classics revolution
Left for dead 2
portal 2
Sonic all stars racing transformed
tux kart
Resident Evil 6
castle crashers
contagion
Watchmen
Dungeon siege 3
Dungeon defenders

How to survive, the baconing, and borderlands 2 (with patch) are on our to do list.
