Difference between buffered and unbuffered RAM?

Hi guys, I'm just curious as to the difference between the two types of RAM. I currently have 2GB of unbuffered RAM. My PC literally takes up to about 5 mins to get going when I start it up and I'm thinking it may be the RAM to blame. Any thoughts?

Buffered (registered) Ram, places less load on your memory controller, and allows you to run more ram more stable. Buffered/Registerred ram is also slower than normal ram, as it's used in server enviroments and used for stability and not outright speed.

so thats why my bloody servers take forever to boot up even after i rebuilt one of them its still slow at booting up.... damn i never would have thought it would be the ram that would be the reason behind it
