A survey has revealed most attorneys will not encourage their children to pursue the profession, according to a report on Monday.

The Cape Times reported that only 34 percent of 500 practitioners interviewed in the third quarter of last year would encourage their children to enter the profession.

This figure was a down from the 40 percent recorded by financial services group PPS in the second quarter of last year.

This is very true. i work for attorneys and i am also studying to be one but when i have kids one day i would not encourage them to be an attorney

For one; they don't go to heaven... Want!... Hulle almal lieg :p
Only kidding. No offence to anyone who is an attorney... But it is true... :)

Interesting, would have thought it be the other way round. My cousin just spent 8 yrs becoming one. She's worked for attorney's for years as well... never hear her make any complaints.

Think if we have attorney's that maybe specialise in specific types of lawsuits.

Funny thing, a friend of mine is a lawyer and he said the same thing citing rate regulations as one of the factors.

He told the newspaper that during forums last year, many lawyers had expressed serious concerns about the restructuring of their profession, through the Legal Practice Bill.

The bill determines the rates lawyers can charge their clients and gives the justice minister greater clout in governing the profession.

My 2 questions Why? and Why not change what you are studying now?
Because you work your ass of everyday for little to no gratification from clients. you are basically your client's and debtors doormats for everything to complain about etc. you need a very thick skin.

i am already halfway through my studies and plus to start in a new career at the bottom again just wont work for me as i dont know what else i would like to do and and financially is not possible. Also its a good degree to have as you can always employ yourself should you not be able to find employment(this is the only plus point)

with most careers it has its pro's and con's. some days the pro's outway the cons other days it doesnt. this is just why i wouldnt want my kids to become lawyers form my own experience.
