E3 2015: Sony still not pursuing backward compatibility for ps4

Despite news of backward compatibility on Xbox One, Sony still doesn't plan on implementing similar technology on PlayStation 4.

Earlier this week at E3 in Los Angeles, Microsoft announced that over 100 Xbox 360 games will be able to run on Xbox One, and that Xbox One users will be able to play older titles online with 360 owners. But while the announcement undoubtedly pleased many Microsoft players - especially considering the newly announced Rare Replay collection - Sony isn't re-evaluating its stance on backward compatibility.

"The announcement didn't change," Sony Computer Entertainment head Shuhei Yoshida told Polygon. "I don't think we will change our approach. The PlayStation 4 doesn't have backward compatibility."

At the moment, Yoshida said, Sony is focused on creating new experiences on PS4, and isn't shifting focus to bring older PS3 games onto the current platform. But the Sony executive didn't rule out backward compatibility altogether.

"Backward compatibility is hard," he said. "I won't say we'll never do it, but it's not an easy thing to do. If it was easy we would have done that."

and yet they announced remasters of Uncharted games and beyond 2 souls and heavy Rain  , So no BC but they want you to repurchase previous gen titles again just to play it.

Gotta love Sony

This honestly is not a big deal for me as PS3 and PS4 owner... I havnt even plugged in my PS3 since iv had the PS4...

I can honestly say i wouldn't use a backward compatible feature as much as i thought i might...

If i had an X box 360 this would however push me in the direction of the X-1 over the PS4... And thats what i think Microsoft are trying to do... they have already lost a great deal of consumers to the PS4, if sales figures are anything to go on...

Sony is not the only one releasing remasters microsoft just released the halo collection and now a Gears of war game and those rare games collection. There clearly is a market for remasters.

Well the halo series remastered (Master Chief Edition) is actually quite a big graphics upgrade, they even give you the option to switch ,while playing, showing you what the game originally looked like , and maaan Halo 1/2 looked bad compared to the remastered edition.

I dont mind remasters as long as they actually improve the look and feel of the games.Just look at The last of Us remasterd 1080p 60 fps makes quite the difference.
