False advertising for current gen games?

when you look at a Wimpy or McDonalds menu, the burgers look big fat and juicy, but then when you get it you realise it is not quite the same as the picture. the picture is the product in its perfect state and perfect environment. the same goes for video game promotional material. if the game can look big fat and juicy on a monster pc or on next gen, then that is the image you will see.

in the end your game / burger might not look exactly the same as the advertised picture, and to a certain degree of acceptability, i dont mind. once they start taking off the beef or replacing it with chicken, THEN i will get upset.

Fair enough, but last time I checked, Xbox360 and PS3 was a standard, there is no upgrading or performance differences between yours and mine, that I'm aware of.

I just did a google search for misleading video game box-art and trailers. My issue seems to be an old one. In one of the GameTrailers countdown videos (top 10 misleading video game trailers) they mention that these things happen every time there is a new console on the market. In fact, we should be lucky to be even seeing gameplay footage. In the past they simply made CG video which looked amazing and pawned it off as "gameplay" (remember Killzone 2 when the PS3 came out?)

That's one of the reasons I'm looking forward to RAGE this year. I want to see the consoles and games "for real" and then base my decision off that. I'll just be sure to check out any suspicious "cupboards" at the stands which might house monster PC cases. It seems Microsoft likes to pull that stunt at events.

I kind of understand where you are coming from, but don't quiet agree. As far as gameplay footage being shown in the xbox one or ps4 instead of the 360 or ps3, I think most people would assume when showing gameplay, they would be showing it in the best possible light, ie. next gen consoles. But I do get pissed off when I see "screen shots" and they have clearly been shopped to look better or are from a pc build(when a pc version is being released). The Screenshots of GTA 4, no ways is the game going to look like that on the 360.

You hit the nail on the head sir. And this ties in with what I've been saying. Rockstar showed us a game rendered on next-gen hardware and clearly punted it as "current gen" technology. Heck, the next-gen versions of this game are strongly denied by Rockstar yet we know for a fact now that the gameplay we saw HAD to be rendered on something else.
