Hope they did something about the high temperatures on the other 4000 series.

Not really a problem any more if you don't mind the additional noise.
Fanspeed can be increased in newer versions of the Catalyst Control Panel.

I dropped mine from 80 to 45 degrees C last night.

I think that what is important is not necessarily that RV790 be the fastest GPU on the planet, but that it compares well to nvidia's high end chips while costing less.
