First model PS3 vs. brand new SlimLine model - Noise.

Hi all,

I still have a first model (fat) PS3 that has the dreaded loud-fan-of-doom issue. Apparently the issue is not something you can resolve. Once the fan comes on, it comes on at full blast and then stays on until you switch off the console. It's not doing it due to heat either - it's apparently a legit problem on these models and it's driving me up the wall.

So, I am thinking of selling the console, plus a controller for R1000. That seems like a good deal for someone willing to endure with the noise the thing makes. I'd like to replace the console with a new slimline version.

Do any of you know if the slimlines have the same sort of issue? Or they quieter, or just as loud as the old ones?

Edit 1

No worries. Googled the snot out of it. Turns out the slim model was a LOT quieter then the original phat model. The new ultra-slim model, even more so. I know what I'm gonna do. And if I can't sell the original PS3, I'll have a blu-ray player (albeit a noisy one) upstairs!

Edit 2

So I found out with a little surprise that the 12GB PS3 console doesn't come with a HDD, nor does it come with a cradle for a HDD. You have to buy the cradle separately. Luckily BT Games Fourways had stock of some. It's still annoying to pay an additional R200 for something that should have been included with the console.

Other than that, the new console is literally dead-quiet. It's much more pleasant to use the console now and it doesn't sound like a harrier jump jet ready for take off in my living room. I also have no issues with the new sliding door disc-loading mechanism. The only problem you might have is if you're clumsy and your greasy finger smudges the lens of the Blu-Ray laser. But, that just means I'll have to be extra careful when loading discs. This is a worthy upgrade when compared to the first PS3. Especially if you're planning on keeping the console for years to come, AND, don't like going deaf in the process.

I traded my Wii for a ps3 fat,the ps3 was hardly ever used so there are no problems with.
I was considering buying a new ps3 before I made the trade, but instead got me the Xbox 360 Halo 4 special edition, which is AWESOME.

Don't think I'l get a new ps3, waiting on a price drop on the ps4 for end of next year.
