Five million people use EA Origin daily

Yeah that probably had NOTHING to do with those 8 million people playing the BF3 beta, nothing at all. :)

Also just because it's open and running on your PC doesn't really mean you are using it.

How are the graphics on low? I've heard people say it's the same as the console version and not ugly at all. Instead, low is pretty, medium is prettier, high is even prettier and ultra is spectacular. I'm tired of low settings that simply make the game look like ass.

If you don't give people any other choice than to run the program, what are you expecting?

So you have a choice to install steam or not if you want to play: Half-Life 2, Portal 2, Team Fortress 2, Left For Dead 2 and Counter-Strike Source?

I don't see how that is in any way relevant to the topic at hand, or even my post.

I wasn't raising my opinion on the Origin platform, I was merely pointing out that it's nothing to be surprised at. BF3 is currently a very desirable game. The Beta requires Origin to play. Lots of people want to play the beta, therefore lots of people are forced to use Origin. It's not at all indicative of how well Origin is being received, merely how desirable the games requiring the platform are.

I get that, just sounded like you were one of those okes that will complain about a competitor to steam. Sorry, shouldn't have assumed as much.

good point let see in few years how many people buy off Origin then we can see a valid compare

I hope you don't need origin for the disc version because Im getting kinda sick of being forced to use steam or origin if you want to play the game.

Bad news for you, the disc version will also require you to make use of Origin. So whether you like it or not, you're going to be using Origin either way ;)

What's so bad about origin anyway? People complained when steam was required to play half-life 2/counter-strike, now most people prefer it. What makes this any different?

200 000 people use the Freeway from Jhb to Pta every week.

Please forward that to them. Just some useless info.
Who cares how many people are using a service that is forced on them to play BF3, not to mention it starts when windows starts and runs in the background. Grats EA for some pointless shit.

What I really blame in this instance for making everyone's life more complicated is the fact that every Publisher wants in on a piece of the online distribution market
Instead of using one converged platform, they opt to use proprietary locked down portals to distribute games to maximize profit and sure, it works, but do any of them ever stop to ask if we, the audience they sell to like have 3 - 5 Background portals running on our systems the whole time
And before someone mentions that you can elect to have them startup manually, that may be even worse, pre loading a loader makes no sense

+1 to that. I don't see why EA didn't just use steam. Gamers would have been much happier, if they did that. Then you get them saying and I quote "Origin is so much more than steam" Oh really? In what way? Mmmm...Tards.
