Graphics card sales take a dive in 2008

Eina!

Well, that's a recession for you. I remember how hard things were in 2001 after all that money was blown on the "millenium bug". Same sh!t, different day. :p

i was one click away from upgrading my graphics card last year (2008), but when i saw that the card i wanted costed WAY more than an xbox, i opted for a whole new console rather :) and my old gpu still works just fine (mostly)

i think a big part in the sales slump would have been console converts

The lower end of the market seems to be struggling but i am not seeing much of a slow down in the higher end segment, GTX 295s are flying these days

I reckon it's the massive increase in console sales. I think a lot of people, myself included, got tired of forking out for constant PC upgrades and opted for the console route.

Plus, there are too many cool console exclusives and very few on PC to make it worth the while.

Biggest problem is that console games are far to overpriced. Personally I prefer PC games over console games, hopefully this dive in sales will encourage more affordable graphics cards.

With a pricetag of R8000< for the GTX 295 there doesn't seem a reason for anybody to buy GPU's now when the cards they have now still run!

I read somewhere that NVIDIA predicted that sales would drop by 50% in the next year so I think most manufacturers are ready for there lower profits(and in some cases loses)
