A group of teachers watched without intervening while a schoolboy was being killed at Sizimele High School in KwaZulu-Natal, The Times newspaper reported on Friday.

Bongani Nkabinde, 18, died after being kicked, punched and hit at the school in Dannhauser, a small town between Newcastle and Dundee. A video of the attack has gone viral.

I saw this yesterday. It is horrible!

I can imagine why they did not jump to action seeing as how the kids these days don't think twice about attacking teachers. It doesn't condone their lack of action at all as they could have teamed up and saved a person's life. I have no idea what is going on these days with the amount of school violence flaring up and lack of respect some kids have for those in authoritative positions.
 
Wow, I thought high school was meant to be some of the best years of your life not the scariest. They really need to step up and stop this violence in school, bring back the cane.
 
In a normal highschool other kids would also intervene and try to break up the fight, in this highschool they actively encouraged the fight.

According to what I heard they phoned the police, and that is pretty much the limit as far as teachers' power goes these days. If they had tried to physically intervene they could have been either attacked by the students (likely) as they were armed, or they would've been forced to physically restrain them, opening them up to possibly being charged with assaulting students.

That's the reality of our education system these days - teachers have nearly no power. It's a case of screwed if you do, screwed if you don't.
 
School=prison. As for the teachers what cowards. could of saved a life. And everyone carries on how bad schools are in england.

Or one of the teachers could have ended up dead. Those kids were carrying spears and knobkieries. And going by recent events, they don't seem to have a problem attacking teachers with whatever comes to hand.
 
Teachers have no power in these type of matters,I would know my father is a high school teacher,and the kids there are rude,undisciplined,lazy and at time violent.
If a teach even tries to reprimand a student physically,like just move them or take them by the arm,it is considered as abuse.

People can so easily blame teachers for not doing anything,but they have NO IDEA how it all works,teachers are easily attacked these days by students.

I don't blame them for not interfering cause if they did,obviously there would be a struggle between the teachers and the violent students,then a student will get hurt and blame the teacher,the teacher is then taken to a disciplinary hearing where he/she WILL lose their job,a job which they need to support their family.

The Government needs to take more action and allow punishment in schools(not in the form of beating),and be more strict with students on their behavior and attitude.
