Ham you muppet, get your card looked at. 8800GTs should not run that hot... Either your airflow isn't good enough to remove the heat from the case, or your heatsink isn't mounted correctly on the gpu, and you need to remove it, remove the old thermal paste, reapply new thermal paste and put the cooler back on.
Your card can run at 100C, but it will definitely be shortening it's lifespan.

If it was one of the GTS cards there is something wrong with ether your fan controller, make sure its not set to manual and that its just running at 50% seed or like the others said.

My old vaporX cooled 4870s in crossfire were awesome, they never went over 67C and they were also super quiet.
My 5870 is also great, and sits at around 69C under heavy load with a light overclock of around 30MHz, sometimes peaking at around 72C.
But yes, to reiterate what everyone else has said, 75C is fine. I generally start worrying when cards start hitting the 85C mark, and 100C is definitely too hot for my liking.

Dude that is NOT normal and your dad better look at a new cooling solution. If he doesn't want to move to water cooling I suggest he gets a PC chassis that costs more than R200 that comes with decent cabling and cooling solutions built in. 100 degrees celcius is very close to the point where silicon looses integrity. Even when a card comes close to 80 degrees celcius it can be a BIG concern.
My GTX280's in SLi reach MAX 70 degrees celcius on AIR cooling (not even water) and my poor 9800GT stuck between them handling the physx gets VERY hot at 75 degrees....so yeah...100 degrees = disaster.

It's not the silicon thats the problem with the heat, it's the solder material used on the board and within the gpu. At about 150C, it starts to melt, and you loose the vital connections within the board and gpu, thus breaking your card.
Incidentally, those 8-series cards are rated to run at 120C all day long if they have to. If they cross 120C, they start throttling themselves. I remember my 9800GX2 (2x8800GTS cores) would start throttling itself when it hit around 103C, but the cooling solution on that card was horribly inefficient.
