Help Voicy choose a PC!

Boetie Voicy

I reckon get a E7400,2gb RAM,9600GT

That will sort you out for for +- 2yrs or so.
Cases are purely a personal choice, just remember "gaming" cases don't come with a PSU. So anything 400W and above will be perfectly fine for awhile.

Most 9600GT's these days come with a HDMI,DVI output so that will be fine for ur TV LCD.
But i would suggest getting a 19" LCD screen or bigger to get max benefit out of it. They going for cheap these days +-R1200 for a LG.

i would not suggest getting a Phenom x 2 atm. M/boards would be hard to get hold off in this country for the meantime.

U dont need a new mboard for a Phenom X2 as it fits and works in the OLD am2 boards perfectly ! :rolleyes:

Rather keep your current graphics card than go for a 9600gt. For gaming your graphics card is the most important choice. Since you are saving money if you go for the E7400 (or the AMD route if you want) then get a 9800GTX+ or save for an HD4870 which will be dropping in price very soon.

If it was me then I'd go for an E7400 and keep the current graphics card until I can afford an HD4870. In theory the prices for the graphics card should be dropping soon.

well so far my memory serves me...

E8400 for +- R2.3k
E7400 for +- R1.6k

but getting either of them will last you a good long while :)

Eina! That's half the price of the E7400 more... I think I'll go the cheaper route then and stick the other into a nice gfx card.

Right so, my list revised:

Case + PSU = lanboy + 400w

CPU = E7400

Ram = 2x2gb kingston ddr800 ?

Mobo = p45 asus ?

gfx = 9600gt or the ati , to be revised.

What's that tally to ?

Right, so I've been discussing it with Gradius and my trusty ol' hardware supplier duder...

I'm thinking of going the following route:

CPU: E8400 (Price? 2000-2300?)
Mobo: G31 (not enough $ for the expensive P45's :( ) (R750)
Ram: 2x 2GB ddr800 (R700)
gfx: I'll upgrade my 8600GT when I get more info on which is best bang for buck
box: Lanboy + 400W psu (+/- R1.2k)
I'll keep my 250gb sata + 120gb ide for now.

That tallies to R 5k if I'm not mistaken... can anyone give comment on this?

I had the same problem. I'm also using a G31 mobo.

I see that at the Prophecy Shop the E7400 costs R1703 and the E8400 costs R2667. I understand your decision to go with a faster CPU but if it was me I'd rather go with the E7400 now and save some money for a decent graphics card. Not everyone would agree with me though. :)

That's a bit odd... a mate of mine managed to get one incl. vat from a distributor mate for R1800. I would've thought the retail price is R2100-2200. If that's the case I'd rather stick with the E7400 and as you say, get a decent GFX card that will be doing the bulk of the work anyway.

Sorry to just chime in here, but I've been looking for a thread concerning this topic as I'm also looking at upgrading. Couldn't really get any solid info on MyBB.

I'm pretty much in the same dilemma as Voicy, but my current PSU should be ok and I've currently got 2x2GB Kingston 800 DDR.
So I need CPU and mobo really and honestly a GPU as well.
My 8600GT is lacking, or it could be my old single core that's letting me down :o
I have trouble running Rainbow Vegas Six 2 on my current setup. :o

Looking at really just getting a cheap box - don't need a true gamer setup - it's on the inside where it matters for me.

E7400 R1200 exc vat mate

Mind sharing a source on that price please? :)

That's a really good price! Where from?

So far the cheapest I could see was R1650 incl.

i got the new cm 690 cooler master chassi. let me know if you wana trade your crappy case for the new look.. at a cost. .. cus you cant drive a uno and say its a ferrari if you know what i mean. size matters.
