Took HoN a while, but it has now officially overtook Counter-Strike as the most played Mutliplayer game (non MMORPG) next to LoL. Question is how and why? Most games loose their player numbers over the years, HoN seems to be gaining them. DOTA2 and it's closed beta which feels like it's taking forever might also have gotten to people tired of waiting. Blizzard DOTA, war3 DotA, LoL, HoN, DOTA2, it's like world war for fanboys where no one is willing to concede...
That means growth in one of the games will result in growth in the other.

Interesting, I guess the whole going free-to-play things probably helped. You can't really say much about DOTA2's numbers since the biggest bottleneck there is just accessibility and the lack of invites.

Just hit the 100k mark. It appears Garena has been responsible for the sudden increase, they have starred to aggressively market LoL and HoN, and allowed SEA players to "trade in" their DotA accounts. They also hosted a huge tourney with a pretty big cash price.
So the partnership is finally working in HoN's favor.

No idea how DOTA2 is gonna try and compete in the SEA market without Garena.
