IBurst and ADSL

Hi Ppl,

I need some advice.... I'm currently on Iburst and it seems that they are starting to go down fast and nasty ....

I Had a 3GB package and when I ran out of bandwidth I was dropped to a 64k connection.

And now they changed there packages ... I'm upgraded to 5GB but the 64k throttle falls away and now you need to pay an extra R200 a month if you want it.

Now I'm condedering going on to ADSL.....
Whats some good options out there speed wise and bandwidth wise vs costs
And obviously ADSL is way better to have for online gaming, just limits you that it not mobile ;-(

I had 3G when i was in hostel still in school, sadly most the time i never even got 3g. But now i am home well adsl is the best and cheapest way.

With the new SEACOM coming in internet bandwidth and prices will drop dramatically. Depending on games you play, i play dota, cod4 and some other games on the internet with my 384 line with no problems(unless one of my family members is looking at a lot of pages which can make some lag) but if you alone then 384 is great.

Where is you looking to download and upload that can be a problem, but if you not into that. 384 is great.
Bandwidth there some great deals out there depending on what you going to use the line for. International gaming or local.

Well i use it a lot for work purposes so downloading huge files, lotsa MS and Linux stuff...

and the odd gaming .... so probably looking more at a 4GB bandwidth

Iburst is the biggest load of crap stay far away from them as possible and anything wireless. ADSL is way more reliable and faster.

Thanks for that , but thats just it.
I never actually had issues with them.
But with there changes and no real speed upgrades on there lines it has become an issue.

But still my original question was on what decent ADSL packages are out there and what are some if the guys here on and whats the costs.

The other thing is on the ADSL I see some places offers 30 GB local cap but when does that kick in , only once you have used up your initial 4GB ?

I would recommend webafrica: http://www.webafrica.co.za/adsl/complete/ I just bought the line with no cap then I buy cap as I use it @ R70 a GB. Works out cheaper than getting a line + 3GB and so some month I use less and some month I buy more so no month is the same. And whatever I dont use carries over.

Telkom telline, R130-R150
Adsl 512, R152
Arihost, 2gig R58 5gig R128 if i remember corecly. No local
Webafrica 30gig local R130 prepaid.
On my phone now cant give you the links.

If you want to do a lot of local browsing and downloading after you're capped, go with Telkom ISP (10gigs free local for every 1gig international you had).

Otherwise AfriHost is the way to go :) R29/gig with frequent 2-for-1 specials.

If you only need 384, but would like 512, go with 384 for now...as it looks likely that Telkom will be upgrading everyone's speeds starting from March. Considering tomorrow is February...:)

If you plan on downloading lots of apps/games etc than I suggest you go for cybersmart - for R358 you get line rental, 3 gigs int cap and you can download as much as you want weekends without costing you a cent and without being deducted from your original 3 gigs.

Don't forget that you will need a phone line if don't already have one and pay rental for both the phone and on the ADSL rental.
