ISP and DSLAM help.

Hi all,
I am moving from Cybercrap to find a half decent ISP, my first choice was Afrihost but due to the recent move to MTN and their teething problems Id rather get input from the community.
So please do advise me. I Torrent almost 24/7 and game on FPS often.

Also. I pay for 4/10mbs and sadly only get 4... Anyone I could speak to about adding more bandwidth to my DSLAM?

Thanks
-Mike

All ISPs will give you grief for that - unless you buy an unshaped package which will cost you a fortune.

No.

Perfect. Could I use an uncapped Afrihost account for the torrents on one router and another capped account (diff ISP) for gaming on another router on the other side of the house?

Only if you've got two physical ADSL lines.

>>Perfect.

Not so fast. I don't think you're hearing me. Firstly I said unshaped, not uncapped. Secondly by "cost you a fortune" I meant the expensive type of unshaped. e.g. Mweb's package at R1899/pm.

You can try Afrihost's package at ~700-800 for the business one, but I can tell you right now that they'll kick you out within a month or three. They calculate prices based on the assumption that user's don't run 24/7...so if you do they lose a pile of money. Also, even AH's unshaped isn't unshaped 24/7.

I suspect even Mweb @R1899 will kick you out sooner or later...

Sucks but thats the way it is...

I wonder which torrents...Any ISP will throttle you if you download 24/7, or even worse as Havoc said they terminate your account

Every ISP has a fair use policy.
A part of Mweb's:

• You may not restrict, inhibit or interfere with the ability of any person to access, use or enjoy the Internet or the any services, or create an unusually large burden on our network, including, without limitation, continuously uploading or downloading streaming video or audio; continuous FTP uploading or downloading, or otherwise generating levels of traffic sufficient to impede others' ability to send or retrieve information, or to use the services in an abusive manner in connection with any unlimited packages, options or promotions.

• We reserve the right to establish policies, rules and limitations, from time to time, concerning the use of any service. You must comply with any bandwidth, data storage and other limitations we may impose, in our reasonable discretion. Failure to comply with these rules will result in your service being restricted, suspended or terminated, in our reasonable discretion.

• We will manage bandwidth usage to the best of our ability during peak periods, however, it remains a best effort service.

• We reserve the right to manage our network in order to optimize its efficiency for the benefit of all our subscribers, including, without limitation, by way of the following: rate limiting (speed), rejection or removal of spam or otherwise unsolicited bulk e-mail, anti-virus mechanisms, protocol filtering and imposing restrictions on your use. We may take any other action we deem appropriate in order to help ensure the integrity of the network experience for all subscribers, including limiting your data traffic by controlling your network and/or bandwidth usage.

Stay within the limits and Mweb will respond in kind, rape the line 24/7 365 and they will give you hell.

Thanks all.
Havok. I meant perfectly in a sarcastic way.
I have 2 physical Telephone lines. Guess is wont work?
When I setup my router. It asks for the logins on the router itself. So can I not put 2 different logins on the 2 routers?
Im a real noob so be gentle :P

You wont be able to get ADSL from both lines on the same router very easily. My advice get a router board, and route the traffic from the difference ISP's like that.

All that effort to torrent.... some of its probably illegal to... Sigh pirates are going to ruin the gaming industry

I don't pirate games. Ever.
I cant however, say Ive never pirated anything. Right now Im just leaving this the way it is. Thanks everyone!
