John Carmack not keen on next-gen consoles

The same could be said for every single console iteration, it's 'sort of the same but better'. That's how technology moves forward, it's how we go from 9600 baud to 1Gbps Internet connections or phones the size of bricks that can do only one thing to phones that have enough computing power to launch several satellites into orbit simultaneously.

Imagine if people said "well what's the point of a 14000 baud modem, it's the same as a 9600 baud just better".

+1 Surely the same but better is the very foundation innovation. Me thinks once Legendary Designer/Developer is fallen from Grace.

Either I've completely missed the plot, or something, somewhere, is being taken out of context.

Some of Carmack's very different opinions can be found here (where he states "We do not see the PC as the leading platform for games") or here (where barely two weeks ago he talks about the "long future for the next generation of consoles").

Um, what?

I think he's trolling

That explains Doom 3.

Hehehehe...

I am quite happy with the current generation consoles (probably because I have an EPIC backlog on all three consoles), but I am keen to see what the future holds with regards to the next generation. That is the only way to move forward.
