Joining the royal marines soon

There was a part in my life where I too wanted to join some Special Forces group; I don't think I have the physical or mental stamina to perform such a task. Will always be a dream though.

I do. I just need to train my upper body more for strength. I can run 1.4 kms in 12 minutes and 2.8kms in 20 straight afterwards.

I am doing this. This is not talk. I don't want to be an office ant.
 
Chances that you will make it are very very thin. I've had a loooooooong talk with a retired Major in the UK on my visit there(http://www.bicton.ac.uk/news/bicton-college-military-academy-section-leader-receives-his-mbe, this guy, hes fusking awesome), he said that to join the army, nevermind the marines, you have to have good school results ( in subjects like English, Science , Maths) , you have to be very fit, and you need prior training/preparation. Plus UK citizens take priority over commonwealth applicants.

I also spent a day in a Royal Marine Commando base at Lympstone with him , as well as in the Bicton College which is like 10 mins away from the base. They had a SAS guy there teaching hand to hand combat to the okes who are busy with their military service course. To get to the point - the training is very hard, that is if you pass the medical/physical tests, as well as aptitude test. The Royal Marines are part of the Navy , meaning you have to be an excellent swimmer. Floating doesn't count.

I was also swept up by the hype they create on their website - once you see the real thing you start having second thoughts.

I suggest you go for a preparation course before joining, something like the course at Bicton College. Otherwise I hate to break it to you - your chances are very slim. You can always try out for the Army 1st and then the Marines.

If you are however dead firm on joining - watch out for the interview questions. If you give the wrong reasons for wanting to join it's gg. I still have all the exercise and aptitude papers lying around, if you want to get them or smthing.

I get okes everyday asking me on how to join the Royal Marines(yes marines only, because of the movies they watched and because it sounds cool) and I ask them why they want to join, and they either don't have an answer or say something stupid.

Yes I might get killed but I might get killed tomorrow.

...never talk about that. Military isn't there to kill or get you killed, it's a job, just like any other high risk job out there.

If your heart and mind are set on it, then go for it. If you think you're up to the task and are ready for anything that'll come your way.

Didn't think it'd be easy.
Watched reality shows about these kinds of training -- they're NOT a joke! You'll be tested until far beyond your limit... and further.

I have done my research. I have all requirements.

I'm joining bec I want a career in the military. I have a military family. I know all about the army. Also I do have citizenship.
And no I am not joining bec of movies and games. I know deep down inside this is the right choice.
Also I am an excellent swimmer.

Also I have been thinking about this for years.

I had a friend at school who was a total weedy nerd class clown type of guy. After school he had no clue of what to do with his life so he joined the Army in the UK(he had citizenship). I saw him a few years later and he looked totally the same except for some extra muscle and a heavy british accent. He says its the best thing he could have ever have done for himself though there were moments he wanted out, it was worth working through it. As far as I know he did 3 tours of Iraq. He has multiple stories of enemy engagements but what struck me was how he told the stories, just as if he was a normal guy talking about his day in the office. Hardcore:cool:

I'm more of a desk jockey myself, and fulfil dangerous and cool looking military specialisation online in games :)

I have a long line of military men. The two that stand out were:
My great grandfather he was an engineer in ww 2, and my moms uncle was a mercenary during the congo crysis

I can't live life like that anymore. Can't do an office job.
 
It's gonna be an interesting time to join the marines. The past few years their focus has been on training a land and air based marine since that's the war they're been in and now that they're pulling out they have to change back. They have a lot of equipment to cycle back in and methods etc so odds are that new recruits are gonna be pushed hard.

At least you won't get a tour in afgan since her majestys forces have been pulled out

There is a new tour in 2014 apparently. Saw it on their forums.
 
Let us know when you join and what you are doing. I don't agree with war so don't recommend it but it's interesting so keep us updated.

Good luck dude, I know a number of people that have moved into the Marines, Airforce, etc.. They all said it's the best move they could've ever done. I applied for the Airforce here but due to certain BEE circumstances and the fact that they required HG maths and I was an SG student.

One guy I know recently came home as he is an actual Blackops soldier and he said there are some things people need to see and experience.

I applaud you for making this move dude, it takes a lot to consider but let us know how the process goes regarding moving across. :D

This is what my plans are.

Join the royal marines spend a few years with them. See if I can join the sas afterwards and then I want to be a high profile bodyguard for political people and celebrities. I know people who have done that.

So you have a British passport already? That will make things 100 times easier.

Well dude if you don't make it into the royal marines you can join the navy. Sisters boyfriend was in the British navy.
