Kinect versus Move: one year later (Column)

Still have my Kinect, in a box with the rest of my crap in SA, and cant say there is one game released since its release that I want to play.

Move I am still considering purely for No More Heroes, House of the Dead other such rail shooters.

I got a kinect...fired it once since I had it..
Do have a PS3 as well, but don't have a move, but from what I can tell move is much better :/

I'm bloody lovin my kinect especially the sports game

I think your game comparison is a bit off as all the Kinect games you mentioned are Kinect only games as the ones you mentioned for the PS Move are a mixture of PS Move only and PS Move features games. Little Big Planet 2, for example, only has a portion of the game that is PS Move compatible and should not have been included. If that is the case however, you should have included games like Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary (metacritic 83%) as it includes Kinect voice commands, or games like Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 1 for the Xbox 360. Just saying.

Yeah I always knew the games comparison would be a contentious issue - particularly because both control mechanism are vastly different and implemented in various ways as you point out.

However, in terms of exclusive content, you have to admit that the Playstation Move still comes out tops. Having a controller means it's a lot easier to implement motion control into games a la Heavy Rain and LBP where it feels native, even if used in limitation.

The Kinect's lack of controller makes it more difficult to implement in that regard - so games have to be designed specifically around it - and that means it's exclusives tend to be on-rails, or fitness games - or gimmicky and counter-intuitive.

That's how I approached that particular section, anyway - a combination of implementation and potential. It would always boil down to personal interpretation though (hence it's a column) the meta critic scores were there reader benefit.

I think the two are too different to compare directly as they appeal to different gamers. I dont own an xbox but have played some games with kinect and it was serious fun. I am the proud owner of a PS Move and there are games i consider getting because it is compatible with the move and way more........uhm serious. But thats just my opinion:)

They both suck......just stick with the controller...case closed

LOL

That your "professional" opinion?

The tech involved in the Kinect doesn't suck, its actually pretty impressive. The games that try and implement this tech well they suck.
The real problem is that there aren't any devs that are developing solely for motion controls, back with the original xbox MS bought several studios and they worked only with the new tech which inturn game us Halo and the like. If a similar approach was taken with Kinect we would have seen some more "hardcore" games.

The other problem is people that are close minded towards this new control mechanism which in turn deter devs from committing resources to develop for either Kinect or Move.

I've borrowed a friends Kinect for this weekend to give it a spin. Are there any "decent" games available for it? As far as I can see Dance Central is about the only game that makes the most of the Kinect?

I have Kinect Adventures, Kinect Sports and Your Shape - Fitness Evolved... to try out at least.

Its friday dude...........lighten up.......

LOL

Kinect is superior in advancement but the games are awful; whereas the Move's technology is current but the games are way better.
