The front airbags in the Toyota Fortuner in which Afrikaans singer Kurt Darren and two friends were involved in a weekend accident near Witbank, did not deploy during impact, Beeld reported on Wednesday.

Only the airbag in the left front door, where the singer sat, deployed during the crash.

Beeld published a photograph of the wreck, showing that the front airbags did not deploy.

"Toyota spokesman Leo Kok said Toyota South Africa had never had a vehicle of which the airbags did not deploy when needed."

That is absolute bullshit, i have driven past a Toyota Hilux that hit a cow and they didn't deploy ( The front was V'd in ) and seen another fortuner in a head on collision with only the passengers air bag deploying.
 
Not sure how many of you have heard about the Nikki Catsouras case? When I saw her story on Dr Phil, I made the incredibly stupid mistake of doing a Google image search ... the air bags in her Porsche deployed — weren't at all helpful for a head-on collision 160 kph. Is there any information on the specifics of Kurt's collision i.e. how fast was driving, etc?
 
There are a number of factors that could cause the airbags not to deploy like if he wasn't wearing a seatbelt, etc. Would be interesting to know what those factors were in this case though.
 
I'm actually a little sad that there are no jokes going around in cyberspace revolving around this event? I mean, he's fine - and there are NO jokes being made? Seriously - I've seen jokes about celebrities 5 mins after they've actually died, but for Kurt, NO JOKES?!? WHAT?!
 
Geez I know it's horrible to say this, but we need less of these crap afrikaans singers, if you know what I mean.

The porsche girl? She was pretty hot before she lost half of her head, but she brought it on herself...

No airbag is going to be helpful at 160kph head on collision....or at least not one small enough to fit your car...
