A KwaZulu-Natal mayor and his deputy have had 16 bodyguards assigned to them since 2008 at a cost of more than R1.2 million a year, the Sunday Tribune reported on Sunday.

According to the newspaper, Umgungundlovu district mayor Yusuf Bhamjee and his deputy Thandiwe "Fucwana" Zungu have more bodyguards than provincial premier Senzo Mchunu, who has only five bodyguards.

Umgungundlovu district encompasses Pietermaritzburg, Howick, Mpendle and Richmond.

Perhaps if this useless government didn't waste so much cash then we could say...upgrade Gauteng freeways without extorting road users.

Efficiently using taxpayer money to upgrade infrastructure....this is certainly a novel concept. Bold & daring even. It'll like get shot down as being too Avant-garde though...

They fear the people that they are supposed to look after it seems. Maybe if they actually did their jobs they wouldn't have to be scared of the people.
