Mass Effect 3 fans want a new game ending

Harry Potter should have ended with him dying. And it almost did, then she decided to sugar coat it and push out another happy ending. I felt cheated and the end of HP.

Harry potter should never have been turned into a movie...lol Anyway..I feel that although pretty much all gamers are moaners and bitchers, they wouldn't just moan or complain or make demands unless there really is something up with the ending of the game. I haven't even installed my copy yet xD So not gonna read the article either.

Just finished it.

Seriously, there is no way in fucking hell that Bioware could have botched the end to an iconic series up worse. This was like eating the world's most delicious meal ever. Every course is absolutely amazing. Then when the waiter removes the cover from your dessert it is revealed to be a steaming turd.

Actually, that analogy isn't even comparable to this. I'd prefer eating a turd over ME3's ending.

I think it totally screws up the game's re-playability.
Sure I'd like to see the effect of some choices made in earlier games, so I think 2-2.5 playthroughs would cover almost everything, although the motivation to replay or even to replay to the end is gone now seeing that there is no reward.
All they needed to make a great ending was to do something similar to ME2 and that would have been 100%.
[SPOILERS]
"Something similar to ME2", meaning that all the important choices made in previous games and ME3, should have an effect on the ending. After all, that is why we love Mass Effect in the first place. Three outcomes would have been great like:
- Success: Shepard survives
- Success: Shepard dies
- Total failure

[/SPOILERS]
But this was just wrong.

For what it is worth, I found this quote on that "Demand a better ending" Facebook page, although the source is not confirmed.
We at Bioware are aware of the response from our fans. We have dedicated many hours to the mass effect series, and to putting out the best quality product we can. The ending for mass effect 3 was written by our talented writers as a means to instill shock, and discussion. Never did we expect a reaction of anger or disappointment. We have followed many hundreds of discussions, and we understand why these feelings have been provoked. The ending of mass effect 3 was intended to be open ended for two main purposes: the intended release of large, expansion quality dlc. And the announcement that we feel we must now make before we intended, that production for mass effect 4 has begun. We apologize to all of the fans that feel we somehow let them down, rushed our project, or even sold out. We would never betray such an amazing and loyal fanbase, and hope that you will stand with us for more adventures in the mass effect universe.

Unless they make ME4 a prequel, I'm not sure how they will continue forward from here.

Looks fake to me. If it was indeed someone from BioWare I think they'd at least spell the name of their game and company properly.

I was so excited. So amped to have so many of my questions about the universe answered. I stayed up for longer than safe for a person to be sitting in one spot and have literally fallen ill. (Took a sickie and got sick!)

What I got was a giant FU from the devs. I sat there speechless at 4 in the morning looking at my screen for answers.

Spoiler: show

My biggest gripe in the game besides for the fucking waste of an ending is:

Where the fuck were the reapers?? The last two games, they played a huge role besides for being tanks on planets. Where is the long winded explanation of their purpose from Harbinger? Were is Harbinger chasing you down? How about a little bit of a battle inside a reaper/s and seeing the cores and punching them in the face? Thats what everyone wanted. Not a floaty ethereal dream child nonsense fuckjasdfSDFDFJKLSDFJHMACFJHMA. It makes no sense!:confused::cry::cry:

How could they. It was the trilogy, the sci-fi universe of my generation, something beautiful that nearly everyone loved. What a way to ruin it. Wanting to cash in on extending the franchise past its sell by date has RUINED the whole story.

I feel raped. I want to cry.

What I don't get is that the endings are nothing like what Bioware promised they would be. I'm actually left wondering if these were the endings they originally intended. It looks more like Bioware was running out of time and EA didn't want to delay the game again, so they rushed development of the ending.

Agreed! There's no closure to the endings - It feels like the ending was a rushed decision. They spend tons of time creating a back story for everything and then boom - you're finished. Goodbye.

BTW - I dunno how "From the Ashes" is not part of the original game because it adds so much to the story. Honestly I think that they sold people short there too. Really creative idea and awesome new squadmate that adds tons of answers to the ME triology.

Sad that the series had to end like that.
I haven't finished it yet, I probably won't finish it for a few days, but if a series like Mass Effect gets an ending that's considered worse than the ending of Human Revolution, it's bad.

I must admit that hearing all of this has discouraged me from continuing the game, but I think I'll just continue enjoying the good parts of the game and will most likely join the voices saying "The ending is crap!" after finishing.

I guess I'll see.

Keep going dude! The game is awesome except for coming up short in the last 5 minutes. I would recommend keeping a save for the last moments of the game – I have a feeling Bioware will offer dlc for other endings…the game has sold very well for them and I doubt they will ignore their fan base.

Got to admit but this game is one of the most in-depth games I've ever played. I keep wondering how they changed the story due to the leaked storyline last year.

Agreed. The game is excellent up to the final 5 minutes where everything goes terribly wrong. They basically close up all the loose ends except for one that I can think of (Banes... I think he is supposed to be the Illusive man, although never directly mentioned) and you really kinda feel sad sometimes as the finality of it all sinks in.
Besides not getting closure from the ending, the other big issue with it is that it reduces the game's replayability by a lot. But for a first playthrough, keep going.

Plus some of the battles / scenes are simply amazing like one on Krogan world.

I guess I'm still in the bargaining phase :)

I am in the 6th phase... random fury destruction of inanimate objects at arms length whenever ME3 is mentioned.

on another note, I am starting to think about the game as a whole and I am starting to turn to the conspiracy ending side. I think this might be denial actually... but god damnit I need hope or I will never play another game again. I can't chance the hurt again.

The ending is the way it is for DLC, I couldn't really imagine how else they could arrive at such a steaming pile of....
"By a bunch of DLC and see the actual ending you are all craving for"

That is BS... It is bad enough that they have 1st day DLC (which ok, wasn't really that bad due to price), but now, they are actually removing what should have been in the game so that they can charge extra for the ending?? Bastards.

This Youtube comment sums the entire situation up nicely, I think.

I love how we all want it to be a dream, normally considered the worst ass-pull available in fiction. That's how shitty that ending is.

To make a long story short, Gabriel likes his ending (green) and I’m fine with my ending (blue) but I understand how someone could feel cheated - especially if they got the worst ending, or if they aren’t in the habit of reading classic science fiction.

There’s a countercharge now, in response to anger about the endings, that describes Bioware’s output as sacrosanct in some way - beyond criticism. This is fundamentally batshit, or as noted “speculative fiction” author Harlan Ellison might say, bugfuck. I’m fine with the ending, which to my mind started as soon as I ran the executable - the whole game is denouement - but I revolt against the idea of Authorial Divinity almost at the molecular level. I bet Ken Levine would take a redo on Bioshock, for example. To hear them tell it, there is plenty about Deus Ex: Human Revolution the developer would change. Fallout’s “Broken Steel” DLC actually does modify the ending considerably. There’s also a school of thought that says, hey, maybe these are not (strictly speaking) real endings anyway, and I’m always down for a rabbit hole.

They’re very much endings of the Hard Sci-Fi school: work predicated to a certain extent on Interesting Answers but far, far more of a piece with Interesting Questions. The Interesting Question posed here is: what next? We know this is the question, because regardless of any particulars, the very structure of Galactic society is destroyed every time. And the alliance you’ve jammed together with gum, glue, and tape is now sitting in the equivalent of a ten by ten room, all of them armed to the teeth. We know that something survives, and lives well - “the Shepard” has passed into legend, and The Stargazer talks about interstellar travel as though it had all the complexity of crossing the street. But what next?

That is precisely the kind of question I like.

Dont know if this has been posted but this is how the story should have ended Click ME , especially the last 2 or 3 paragraphs . Its what im using to pretend the other endings just didnt happen ....

The picture link inside the spoilers sums up the situation nicely

[SPOILERS ] I think its fine that shepard dies, hell the whole crew could die, bioware has always been realistic , not candyfloss and rainbows. Im just mad that it feels like they just couldn't give a F , and finished the ending in an afternoon . 100 Hours + of gameplay over the series , hundreds of decisions later , only to get the same 3 minute cut scene ( vid comparison link ) with different colours .... and no closure or elaboration on the universe we have known to love .

Oh and an image that illustrates Biowares backtracking BS Picture link
