Former Valve Director of Business Development Jason Holtman has joined Microsoft, and will focus on the company's PC gaming efforts.

"Yes, I have joined Microsoft where I will be focusing on making Windows a great platform for gaming and interactive entertainment," Holtman confirmed to Games Industry International. "I think there is a lot of opportunity for Microsoft to deliver the games and entertainment customers want and to work with developers to make that happen, so I'm excited to be here."

Holtman left Valve in February during a round of layoffs at the company. He managed Valve's Steam platform, working with the company for eight years.

The move may signal that Microsoft is taking gaming more seriously than it has in the past and may be trying to get more games onto their own digital distribution platform for Windows desktops.

My all time favourite title by Microsoft is still Age of Empires 2. So I hope they really do find there "mojo".

how is this news??? people move positions and companies all the time.

Anything can be defined as news however its up to the reader to determine its relevance to him/herself, however one can't deem one piece of news irrelevant to all.

Jason Holtman was instrumental in the success of Valve's Steam digital distribution platform, and in brokering deals with publishers.

With a new console on the horizon and a strong push into the digital marketplace, Holtman may well prove vital to Microsoft's digital distribution success.
