More young black academics needed: Zuma

More young black graduates are needed to fill academic posts at universities, President Jacob Zuma said on Monday.

"... We want to attract more young black graduates into academic careers," he said in a speech prepared for delivery at the Gauteng Manifesto Forum at the University of the Witwatersrand, in Johannesburg.

True story, but they do this retarded thing where they make it easier to become an "academic".
 
Why do they have to be black? Its comments like that which decreases the number of students staying for post grad. What's the point of staying on for research when I'm going to be judged on my skin colour and not my work.

Because race and discrimination is the last thing that the ANC always resorts to when all else fails.
 
But colored and asians are also classified as blacks....so...if Zuma is referring to African black(skin tone) then he should clearly state that.Although it's unfair to classify coloreds and asians as black and then over look it when they apply for jobs and such.
 
What? When I was at varsity more than half of my lecturers were black. Although I will admit they weren't South African.

But why would very intelligent black people go into academics when its so easy for them to go into high power and paying jobs? Its too easy with AA/BEE and all that.

Heh ... they may want to make sure that the kids are capable of reading and writing properly first. Fix the education system before you start dreaming big.
