Great article Wesley!! I love how you described this moment as a renaissance for gaming, because it truly is. It is a shame that the PC has not been the prominent developing platform, but that's unfortunately how business work; you go where the money is. And the money is with the consoles.
Now what the new consoles have done is, to a degree, catch-up with PC hardware, which in turn has given game developer a much better hardware platform to work from. What will happen now is that for the next 2 years games will come out looking better than ever before, and will push PC's more to it's limit.
I also think that with the consoles matching the architecture of modern PC's more closely, scaling and porting to PC's will be much better than before. Some pioneering developers can even now develop on PC first-hand as the porting process will only become easier and quicker to do, saving them money and causing better games for us.
And then there are the hardware companies like AMD doing some awesome stuff like Mantle for the future. All these will only result in a win for gamers.
It truly is a very good time to be a gamer, and I for one can't wait for what the future holds...
