Over 10,000 gamers join Steam group demanding information about Half-Life

Good luck with that.. Valve are notoriously secretive, and while it's frustrating, their approach is working, so why would they change it?

Who are they to demand anything?

I must be getting old because god dammit gamers have turned into a bunch of entitles little fucks.

Edit: I actually touched on this kind of think in the SOPA thread last night.

Having gotten their way, by way of protesting, on other matters the Legion now thinks it can "demand" anything.

Here's the full message from the group:

The lack of communication between Valve and the Half-Life community has been a frustrating experience. While continued support for current and future products is greatly appreciated, fans of the Half-Life series have waited years for a word on when the franchise will return.

So, Instead of focusing efforts in a negative and disrespectful way, we have decided to gain Valve's attention by delivering a basic message:

Your oldest and longest running fanbase would like better communication.

Waiting patiently for over four years is a daunting task, especially when E3 comes and goes without any beat of a Half-Life pulse, time and time again. Valve had stated that information was scheduled to be released towards the end of 2008, and we believe that if they have chosen, for whatever reason, to withhold this information, fans should at least be acknowledged in some way, regardless of developmental plans for the next Half-Life project. The entire trilogy of episodes was supposed to be completed and released by 2007, and if Valve have decided to do other things for the time being, that is fine; all that we ask for is a basic response on the matter, and to let fans know whether or not the current story arc is scheduled to conclude at another point in time.

In addition: This message is in no way, shape or form attempting to rush the development of the Half-Life series; in fact, most members agree that Valve should take the time needed to deliver a complete and polished product.

If you agree with the above message and statements, please join this group and share your support constructively.

Hopefully such attention will be recognized by Valve, and the community's voice will be heard.

I'm missing the demand bit in there. They're asking for some form of communication from the company, and I believe that's fair.

Why? Its valves game and they can keep it quiet as long as they bloody well want to.

As long as they don't release another L4D before the next HL I don't really care.

HL3 or Episode 3 or whatever they call it is pretty much the game I'm waiting for. I know it's coming it's just that it's been so many years since episode 2 that I can hardly blame people for becoming a little impatient regarding even the smallest tidbit of news surrounding the game.

I for one hope we get something concrete about the game from Valve this year. I'm tired of all the rumors... :(

Because they gave the gamers a date, and they didn't keep to it? It's not like they're demanding the game, or even demanding information - as far as I can see, they're being pretty damned polite for a bunch of online gamers. They've given Valve their unqualified support for years, and all they want is some sort of answer.

They could've gone the usual internet hooligan route and started swearing and threatening to hack servers like what Anonymous is doing with Sony - all I see at the moment is a very measured and well-thought out request for a simple yes or no. If yes ... some form of timeframe would be nice.

They are whiners. Like DIII and SCII before its release; it will be released when its good and ready.

So they've been left in the lurch and what some info. I don't see the problem.

They would LIKE better communication. How is that an immature demand?

Wonderful, more thinly disguised trolling. But I have to thank the author, I'll now go join this group.

Should get the guy who hacked their server and go the HL2 beta to help shed some light on HL3 or HL EP 3

Yes coz that will solve all the problem and not, in anyway, create a whole lot more.

10k people that belong in a kindergarten. Or Cosatu...not quite sure which...this issuing demands thing seems equally prevalent in both.
