PC versus Console: what is the best to buy?

Just want to point this out:

Accessibility

You’ve bought your brand new copy of Death Killer 12, you stare at the box, read the manual and analyse the disc all the way home. You pop it in your PC CD tray and to your dismay; the minimum requirements make your PC look like an electric toothbrush. Console owners laugh at this notion as they happily plug-and-play with little worry if their beloved home console can play the game, because it will.

I know what you’re thinking, yes the PS3 has installations, but there’s minimal clicking and configuring. Just stick it in, start it up, grab a Coke and prepare the thumbs. Console outshines PC in the accessibility department.

This is no longer the issue it was 5 years ago. Nowadays PC games are optimized in such a way that they can run on pretty much anything. The recent Dead Space 3 has minimum requirements that are low enough that it would have been able to run on a midrange PC from 2006.

The console will also not necessarily simply run a game. If the console has issues with a game, you're shit out of luck until developers fix it. How long did PS3 gamers wait for Bethesda to fix Skyrim so it can be played on PS3 without lag?

The one disadvantage from the console side that I noticed is that the game loading screens take forever when compared to PC. I've only actually played Heavy Rain and Uncharted 2 on PS3 thus far, but that was enough for me to notice the loading screens (on startup and between levels).

Ultimately though, for me, PC will always make more sense since I already require a powerful pc for my work. The only thing I have to buy extra to make it a gaming pc is the GPU.

The thing for PC for me is the amount of control I have. It's unparalleled compared to the consoles. Community hotfixes, mods, custom troubleshooting, tweaks, etc. None of that is possible on consoles and the consoles pale in comparison due to that.

Not all PS3 games load that long. UC loads very long on startup, but you can play the entire game from beginning to end without ever seeing another loading screen. Fighting games load very quickly. But in general PC does have faster loading times.

IMO neither is better or worse, I have both consoles and a somewhat decent PC and each has its pros and cons.

There can be no winner, both are good and both serve their specific purpose. PC gaming has its downside, so do consoles. With a console you get some things PCs won't, and vice versa. This console vs pc argument is getting really old and stupid...

It's actually not. There are always people wondering whether buying a console is worth it or not. Two weeks ago a friend of mine actually asked me whether I thought he should buy a gaming PC or wait for the PS4 at the end of the year.

The discussion will remain relevant for as long as consoles remain relevant.

I'll take both thanks. I like having options. :)

I actually want to use this. How much will it cost to buy a console and also a half decent PC that also won't take forever to do anything

My view is it cheaper to get a gaming computer that can also do gaming and work. Face it you can't do word and work etc on an Xbox.

In the end they are all in some form or another computers.

Get what ever suits your needs, I would love to have a console to play Halo and Final Fantasy but my pockets are not that deep sadly.

I'd have to disagree with the bang for buck going to the consoles. I would have tied it. Yes maybe the hardware is cheaper, but games in this country are going to rip you a new one, and when you start including steam sales etc there is no comparison.

Console games are not that expensive all the time, only when they're still new on the market. Walk into any BT Games and you're bound to find a bunch of secondhand games for R100 - R200. They also have a lot of good specials a lot of the time.
