I have an HD4870 1 GB xxx edition that just simply wont display any picture. Is there anyone in South Africa that does repairs on these cards?

If I can get this card fixed then I can have 2 of them in my PC.

Any tips will be appreciated.

Thank You

PS. Google did not give any results yet.

Thank You Isengard, I did try that and it did not make a difference, I'm assuming one of the components blew and I am lookign for someone who will be able to test all of the components and replace the faulty ones.

You can't replace those kind of components.

It's a GPU so it's a whole unit, getting it fixed will be a impossible task, because you don't get them fixed have to get a new one or have it replaced.

Is it still under warranty? Send it in and try get a replacement.

I don't think it is still under warranty, I got my 4870 back when they were big and that was ~3-4 years ago.

Only idea I have for diagnostic and repair is to take it back to the manufacturer i.e. Asus or whoever to check it out. Most of the techs there are pretty friendly and passionate and would probably take a quick look.

As for DIY, Check for any burn marks or melted contacts at the base of your capacitors and at the back of the PCB. Take a multimeter and see if you get a brief resistance reading across the 2 capacitor contacts on the back of the PCB. This might help you find a specific dead capacitor, but finding spares with the right specs is tough, and the soldering is difficult unless you put long wires on and have the capacitor hanging off the card.

I will definitely give the oven a bash if the problem arises again. SHAKE 'N BAKE BABY!

Same thing happened to me long ago, your card is gone. Check the manufacturer's warranty, sometimes they can be as long as 5 years.

You can look for capacitors that are bulging at the top or leaking a brownish fluid. They would have to be replaced.

I repaired my routerboard this way a few weeks ago.
