I got a Asus P5KPL/1600 Board
Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 CPU
ATI Radeon HD4870 1 gig (Force3D Brand)

I kept my ram, hard drives and case etc. Got 2 x 1 gig ddr2 800 dimms.

How long will my pc last me now?

*edit* will buy another 2 gigs of ram sometime in the near future when I get more cash. Being a student on a student budget sucks

Hey dude that's not a bad upgrade. I have friends running AMD3500 Single core, with 1 gig ram and 6600GT's. 7400 is a strong overclocker, and the 4870 a strong card in itself.

Just depends what you were running before. But it's enough to get you going through a few new releases. And I can't say it's not good, my PC is quite a bit outdated at this point and having yours would be fantastic :D

Any improvement on hardware components in my book is a worthwile upgrade
With the board you stated and the CPU, your upgrade is now a lot easier in future as well
You can simply swap out Socket 775 Intel CPUS at a later date, making your future upgrades incremental instead of a complete system overhaul.

To illustrate, I experiment with Hardware a lot and my current benchmark is a system with the following spec

Intel Celeron Conroe 1.8 GHZ
2 GB Generic DDR2 800 Mhz RAM
ECS Elite El Cheapo Mobo and
Biostar 8600 512 MB GFX Card.

This machine benches well and with the correct tweaks in software I get a abnormally high FPS count in both CoD and Crysis :)

Thus illustrating its not necessarily what you have but how you use it.

Agreed, but he's not going to have to worry about tweaking settings to get more performance, he can basically just max everything out and know he's going to have a playable game. It's a peace of mind that you don't get with older hardware.

I feel your pain :(

You call that an upgrade? I call that a slow tuesday :)

Nice....NOT:rolleyes:

Thanks for the replies :D

I was running an AMD 4600+ CPU on a Gigabye GA-M57SLI-S4 (nForce 570 chipset) with an Asus GeForce 8600GT, 2 gigs of ram. As I said earlier, I will get another 2 gigs of ram in the not too distant future. But before I can buy the ram and install Vista x64, I need to get a router as well :( Using the Telkom USB Pots Modem and it has no Vista drivers QQ

Well free until next year March, when your PC starts going off every hour. I however recommend it too :).

Just an update. So far all the game I've played runs fine with everything maxed out, and 4x AA ;) Shoulda waited for the 4890 but oh well. At least I overclocked my CPU to 3.5Ghz with stock cooler and it's fine ;)

Nice to hear. Im considering a VERY similar setup for my GF's PC. Glad to hear everything works well:)
