South African made Rooks Keep releasing tomorrow June 14th.

Question for me is: will MWEB and IS gaming have servers?

I recall chivalry: medieval combat being very short lived due to the lack of local servers :(

For what it's worth, I've been hosting dedicated servers for Chivalry since the game's release last year and they are still online. The game does take a dip in player numbers once in a while, but both of my servers do have activity :)

Anyhow, here's my take on Rooks Keep:

1) It's a niche game, meaning... not a lot of SA people will play the game, same like Chivalry and Red Orchestra 2, which is a pity

2) I will be able to host a local dedicated server for it, however, to be able to host an internet server, the server requires it's own cdkey.

Therefore, I would need to buy 2 copies, one for the server and one for myself if I want to play on it. Now, $15 isn't the end of the world, but damn, the developers could've at least removed the server cdkey requirement and I think that's a reason for a lack of servers. :(

If anyone wants to donate for a server key, I'd be glad to host a local server for the game, but I'm not willing to fork out $30 at this stage :o

PS: Ok, I see one of the devs said it should be possible to connect and play on a server using the same key. I'll still think about purchasing the game in the next 24 hours :D

Just give me a shout if you want to test the server.

This game does look very very interesting. Keen to try out the demo though.
Loved battle chess and was always hoping for something similar that is updated.

Just noticed two cool things about the game.
*Firstly is if you walk over a pool of blood, you'll leave behind blood footprints for a while.
*If you increase the FoV or Chase distance, instead of playing it in 3rd person, you can play it with an isometric cam like Diablo3. If you ever wondered how Diablo3 would feel with a controller, well look no further.

Just don't forget to vote for it on Greenlight, link in OP. It's gonna need every vote it can get.

Oh and I tried opening the UDK editor that comes with the game, there's a lot more buttons then I remember from my UT3 days.

I voted for it on Greenlight when it first appeared there. Unfortunately I got to say that it's not my kind of game. It's very well made but I'm one of those guys that prefer single player games and when it comes to multiplayer I prefer co-op. I will probably buy the game just to support the devs but it's not something that I'll play.

Well you could play 2 vs 6 bots in Last Team Standing or something, but I don't think you meant that kind of COOP.
But yeah, where exactly is the market for this type of game, and is the price right? For example what if it was $10 or $15 and get +1 extra copy?
The problem is still exposure, if you look at the youtube vids they don't have much views, and Steam GreenLight I think I saw 12k unique visitors the entire time is was up, so how exactly is it to find it's market without any mainstream influence?

BROFORCE who's been getting a lot of media attention has close to 90k views on it's Greenlight page and few hundred thousand via youtube.

Just hope RAGE picks it up somehow.

Just made my first map for Rooks Keep:
A giant oversized chess board. Took me basically a day and half to build, still rusty.

Meanwhile GamersDissent released a funny gameplay video with commentary:

A Review.

And yeah dedicated servers, still need those, tried playing with someone at 350 ping, too much delay.
Will need a local one, hopefully momentum will pick up soon enough to justify one.

Source Code got released.

Everything needed to mod the game is now fully available. But atm it's not looking too good for Rooks Keep.
The media silence after the game was released and even after Viscera Cleanup Detail is pretty deafening.

Also virtually no one is interested in the game, not even in downloading the demo which is such a shame. There might be some kind of market out there, but they will never even hear about the game.
