[Spring Cleaning] - Revenge of the dust

Necuno

The Piper
So... I just did it.

Armed with Dust-Off, My breath, tooth brush and a screw driver the box is clean and ready for our good sunny days  :D

I've found that lifting it off the ground / surface with a stand does wonders. Most of the dust & crap seems to be at floor level.

Come live by the coast, then you'll know all about it. Not only does the dust accumulate but it mixes with the humidity/moisture and creates this tar-like substance. Then it drips from the CPU fan onto the VGA card that you just replaced 2months ago.

Yeah, I had to replace a clients computer twice after 3 months due to corrosion on the mainboard. Eventually told them to get aircon as a solution. Not the cheapest but it works =P

Yup, here in Toti I see it a lot as well. if your pc doesn't have fan guards / dust guards - ouch. saw a lot of vga cards that went to the big tech repository in the sky.

I have to add this little gem...

Vacuum cleaner with blow function. Small nozzle. It is like therapy. My case is always spotless now.

Funny, I just got back on now from cleaning mine. Always dread the "will my computer turn on again?" moment :P

I've considered getting myself something like this:

A USB powered vacuum for cleaning your keyboard and work area, but I'm not sure if it's powerful enough?

Naah, doubt that'll work, maybe just for blowing crumbs out of your keyboard. I use a proper blower for my PCs, just don't stick the nozzle into the fan and tear off the blades :P

Obviously you won't need an industrial one, but you get the picture (literally).
