Star Wars: The Old Republic

Look up Dark Dogs on Hidden Beks. They are pretty small (10 members active or so) compared to the SA guild (50 active) on republic side but very sociable.

Quick Question.... does ToR come with 30 days game time when you buy it like WoW or what?

Yeah it does, but you must issue a payment order.

iow: You have to add a game card or your credit card details for the month thereafter, but the first month is indeed free.

Awesome, thanks. Im quite enjoying the free2play weekend and GAME has a special on the CE so I may pick it up. (and yes I did go Jedi Knight - what can I say, child hood fantasies and all that.)

So I havent really played SWTOR for a couple of months. I was just wondering, how is the raiding now? Are there any SA guilds killing the raiding hardmodes and is it still buggy? :(

After playing from about 5 on Saturday afternoon (Client took ages to download even on my 17mb line) I played pretty much non stop until yesterday around 6 when I hit lvl 15 where the trail is capped. Didn't see much point in completing missions if I wont be getting any XP and I now debating whether or not to buy the game.

What I liked:
  • Voiced Characters - I think having all the characters voiced, including the player character, creates a deeper immersion into the game and make you feel more involved in the story.
  • Focus on Story - Story was one thing I never got in WoW while I played all the way to lvl 40. I never knew/cared why I was reducing the population of Azeroth. In ToS I know whats going on and care about it, whether this is because it's Star Wars or because I played both KOTOR I & II.
  • Levelling doesn't feel like a slog.
  • Seeing Exactly what stats would change when equipping new equipment.
  • Level Design - Bioware's style is clear for all to see in the environments, each one serves a purpose and the player is slowly introduced to each. In WoW I often found the environments pointlessly large.

What I disliked:
  • Combat still feels a little floaty for my taste, but thats true of all MMO combat not just ToR.
  • Crafting, Crew Skills and Modification - I think because I didn't read all the help screens or Codex entries I find the Crew Skills/Crafting completely mind boggling. The Weapon Modding (or in my case Lightsaber Modding) seems pointless and not very well explained. I can seem to see the effect a specific component would make to the weapon.
  • Money seems valueless - I have about 10K credits and have already purchased 3 items with Commendations (28 Corusant Commendations and 12 from the Jedi Starting area.) There doesn't seem to be anything to spend the money on, I have green or blue gear in most of my equipment slots and Orange weapons (dual lightsabers ftw) and none of the vendors had anything better. :/ I took me ages to get up to 10K gold in WoW and I don't think I ever got any kind of special token things.

Thats a brief summery of my thoughts on the game from my brief time with it. I am contemplating buying the game but still debating it as there are a few decent SP titles coming.

Do yourself a favour and level a non-force using alt. I'd go with commando. Complete different playstyle and lvl1-10 is spent on a different planet. The story is also completely different. It gives a new SP feel to it.

As for money, you'll use it to buy upgrades and materials to craft more items. As for crew skills. You don't craft anything, you send your minions out to run errands, but it becomes VERY expensive.

How are you enjoying your sentinel so far?

Yeah, over all I loved the Sentinel, he feels a little underpowered at times but that could just be me getting use to the combat as I forget about some more my abilities. :o

The f2p weekend ends today so not enough time for an Alt but should I get the full version I plan on playing through each Character to experience all the different stories. Commando & Smuggler are both appealing.

I think should I commit and get it I will read up on the Skills a bit more.

And come join us on Hidden Beks! We have a very big (45+ active members) SA guild for republic on that server. Look us up, the guild name is Republican Knights and our website is repk.guildlaunch.com.

Im not in SA and not on that Server. If I do get it, I play it alot more casually so probably wont get into guilding any time soon.

With the store stocking the Collectors edition now in administration (seems I missed the special on the CE) I will be holding off on buying the game and have chosen instead to replay KOTOR I & II.

Haven't done the hardmodes but we have started raiding . We got EV normal 5/5(SOA is still very buggy) and got karaga palace 3/5 on our first attempt.

We raid every friday evening. Still gearing our members before we try hard modes.

Having the odd issue because of our heavy heavy melee raid group, especially an issue in karaga.

So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish...

I've ended my TOR trek, just now. Going to look around for something else or wait for gw2.

I had to reroll on Red Eclipse because of a dead server. Level 26 so far, but when GW2 comes I'm most probably going to cancel. Endgame and pvp in the game is just too lacking for me.
