Steam hacked: Valve is investigating credit card info theft

True, although, doesn't Steam save the CVV number too?

I see, I suppose it also puts a damper on those Impulsive buys that I tend to do all too often. Damn specials!

I think they give you the option to save the CVV number, to be honest if someone did that, they deserve to buy the hacker some free goodies :D

I don't recall ever seeing an option to remember the CC details excluding the CVV number. The only option there is "
Save my payment information so checkout is easy next time"

I should be pretty safe, as you actually need funds in your account for someone to be able to abuse your cards... :D

No email though which is pretty concerning.

I don't think the CVV number is always required. I was doing a transaction with Microsoft earlier this year where I gave them my credit card details over the phone and since they didn't ask for my CVV number, I asked if they wanted it and they just said that they didn't need it and they charged my credit card. Not sure how they get past that or if anyone else can.

Well congratulations, you've just been nominated to GIEF MONEY TO DEM HACKERS! :D

One of the things I really appreciate about steam: The option to make it forget the card details. Bit annoying that one has to uncheck the checkbox every time but hey still much better than 99% of the shops out there.

/Off to change passwords

Damn...just realized my steam pass and FB pass are the same. FTL :(

Maybe only users who stored their credit card information on steam is affected which is why only they received emails.

I myself use Paypal as an extra layer of security before buying from international providers or providers that I don't fully trust. On my Paypal profile, I only have a credit card link have limited funds available and no overdraft facility. So I basically transfer the funds that I require to that credit card before making a purchase so there is no way for me to lose out.

All credit cards are renewed every 3 year (perhaps 4 years at the most)... I think might be determined by Visa / Mastercard.

I dunno. My card I have here from Standard Bank expires end of 2016.

Thats... a long time.

I started up Steam, and it did an update. After the update was done, Steam restarted and then displayed the noticification.

hehe dewd, which sites were you surfing while logged on to STEAM again? "whistling:

I've changed my password and can kick myself for saving my cc details. Luckily I'm broke as a 200 year old wooden chair atm. I'll only enter my cc details everytime I want to buy something, but, even doing that, surely Valve keeps some kind of financial record of all their sales?

Also, if you used a good password, how hard would it be to crack it if the passwords were "hashed and salted"? Don't know what that means.

I cant be bothered of someone knows my login details, games list or acc address. Even if they have your STEAM username and password they can do squad with STEAM's "Steam Guard"
