Steam hardware stats: how does your PC compare?

Makes for interesting reading. One can kinda see the current trends in them. e.g. Win8 picking up...slowly. Slight uptick in *nix from steambox. More capable integrated gfx etc.

Slightly ahead of the pack in most respects & well ahead on GFX.

I still don't understand why people need more than 6GB of RAM in their PC's if gaming is their only reason for doing so.

If you're running a dual-channel mobo (as most are), it is easier to just pop two 4GB dimms (or 4x 2GB) in there than fiddle with 2x 2GB and 2x 1GB chips (for 6GB) to take advantage of the dual-channel speed increase. So that would explain 8GB, but once you go past that point, I fail to see the point as well. I suspect it's some misguided attempt at future proofing.

I have 6 x 2GB chips, running triple channel. Total of 12 Gigs of Ram.

Why you ask? Because I can!

I think 8gb is enough for game today, but will surely upgrade in future.

I always make sure that my pc is equal or better than the new console, that way I know i can play the game even if it is on low settings!
