The closing event was at least interesting...nothing like humans activating a secret weapon that kills everything in the universe (and shuts down them servers).
Interesting way to end it. I hadn't heard anything of it previously. I can imagine how crappy it is to have an MMO shut down. Must be hard as hell to get them to go big, as well -- especially when you're competing with Blizzard. I still admire them for what they did, but they're practically raping every other company involved in MMOs
Interestingly enough, I've seen a lot of ads on the net for Eve. Perhaps trying to make a good come back, though I don't know if they're struggling. Could also be trying to hype people up for Eve 2
Eve 2? Haven't heard of that one? Are you sure they're developing that as they've got HUGE updates planned for Eve? Eve isn't doing badly at all. They just recently set another record for the most people on one server at a time. I think it was 52 000. So they must be doing better than ever.
If anything, EVE's numbers are going up and not declining at all. Looks like the biggest / oldest corporation break-up in EVE history not too long ago made things come alive again.
There is a new expansion coming out soon, but not EVE2 afaik.
They're introducing ambulation (the ability to get out of your ship and walk in stations) and also have plans to do terrain on planets etc, so I doubt they have a sequel in development. They can simply keep molding Eve over time.
It was more than alright. It's just sad that it didn't have much of an end-game, otherwise people would have stayed and continued playing. I guess that's what happens when you give people what they ask for - a game that doesn't involve hundreds of hours of raiding etc.
