The Verge

That isn't really such a good thing. there are too many people who call them selves "Gamers" and than alot of developers try to make more and more games, intead of better games. (Pointing fingers at E.A. here) but thats not realy what this topic is about.

Come on, the industry is no where near the 1980's crash. I think more 'gamers' would be better.

Ok, this is going to be quite a long reply... :p

@Tinman - yeah I also can't wrap my head around still having two different names for the show. PlayR was first (one night a week), then along came The Verge (every night) but didn't merge them ... weirdos.

@Octoboi - Gametrailers only have a very few trailers that are their exclusives. The rest are released by the game publishers and everyone has access to them. I think in the Verges case, it's laziness, so they just grab where it's the least hassle to grab from.

PlayR is a part of The Verge, which is both a show and a weekly slot. It's an international show as opposed to a locally produced one, we do the revoicing etc.

Wouldn't they require rights or something to say pull videos off Gametrailers.com... those videos are always nice quality (even the SD 1s)

We get a lot of our videos from GameTrailers, or directly from the publishers themselves, NOT off YouTube. The quality of the videos is good so its either the ways its broadcast off dstv or its your tv.

You can usually get them from a variety of sources. And as far as I know, Gametrailers do not own the content that they publish, the videos belong to the creators.

True. But again, we have access to files from the publishers as well.

Whats she going to do? Rock up here and defend the failings of the k@K show she hosts? Cybernet was a decent gaming show back in the day and it only had a sexy female voice.
I avoid gaming shows as their normally K@K. The presenter rarely have an proper understanding of the game or its mechanics and context. Reminicent of Ktv and the stupid questions they ask when someone talks about a game.

TV + Idiot Presenter + Games = Fail.

I'll rock up, but I dont have to take you seriously, or I can say what I say to people whenever we get comments like this - if you dont like it dont watch. If you dont like my voice, or the way I look, nothing I can do about that. I have a very good understanding of games and the way they're made actually, but you're going to think whatever you want regardless of what I say.

As far as I understand The Verge presenter knows quite a bit about gaming, and actually lectures digital animation in gaming at Wits...or something.

I have not watched the show in a while as I canceled my DSTV subscription. I didnt get much value out of it as the news was never as current as online, and they reviewed stuff like Wheelman, which leads me to believe that they are going for the mainstream, which is totally cool but explains why gamers are all moaning.

The truth is that they are part of a very big food chain, and I don't think that they have that much freedom in deciding what they cover. There is so much going on behind the scenes that affects the content on a TV show because it is considered 'big media'.

TBH, the show really is not aimed at you guys. It targets a massive audience that is not online or informed. My 13 year old brother watches it. It needs to target that audience to be viable.

Have they sorted out their video quality?

Thanks. And although no we dont target 13 year old specifically (I saw a reply of that nature) we do target a larger audience than just the kinds of people posting on this thread.

I wonder how she would react to this thread

*shrugs*

I reckn the verge will be taken off air.

We're currently the highest rated show on the channel. Perhaps that will change. Perhaps not.

Right. Thank you for your time - keep watching - or don't :) And yes, always room for constructive criticism... As an aside there is a very very very very long thread about this on PS3ZA if you're interested... Oh! And thanks for the invite to the forum :)

Ooh, a video game celeb! +1 for stopping by and defending the show.

Now all we need is Jack Thompson to pop by for a visit so we can all tell him what a **** he is.

lol UnexpectedGirl I admire your calm and collective responses, especially after some of the things said.

Welcome to the forum. ;)

I like you already. I do admit i saw a few adverts and it didn't scream "watch me". I hope you stick around, we are the fastest growing gaming forum is SA. Join us in TK some time.

Nicely done UnexpectedGirl!

I'm impressed by the way you handled all the posts. Welcome to MyGaming and keep up the good show! :)

Quite a change from "idiot presenter", huh?

:p

Yeah well even i can be an ass sometimes. The comment was made with out having all the facts. I can be the lesser person and admit i made a snap judgement. See im trying out this whole "Be Nice" thing. Ill let you know how it works out for me.;)

I pay R600 per month for DsTV and it's one little poor HD channel so I feel I need to voice my opinion here since I actually do watch The Verge:

Like:

- The presenter chicky is hot. In the "OMW. HOT CHICK" sense of the term. So it caters to the demographic, fair enough. I personally prefer Nigella Lawson and will watch her boil water for 20 hours straight if I could.
- The news is pretty up-to-date which is a nice surprise for a TV show in South Africa. Keep it like that please!
- My company sponsors the show, more yello anyone? :p
- The presenter is competent and doesn't stumble over every 2nd word (I've seen that in other local shows) and it looks like she knows what the actual content is about that she's presenting giving the show some more integrity.

Dislike:

- The show needs to be on a better picture-quality channel. VUZU is an upcomming channel so it's understandable, but if the channel had any lower picture-quality it would look like ActionX. Don't judge my TV or my entertainment setup for the quality, I know what I'm talking about here and VUZU's quality needs to be upped. Period.

- Being a technical person I sometimes spot flaws in the information being reported on. I specifically remember a title being called a "console exclusive" title when it was available on all platforms. Please employ a fellow geek to read over your material before broadcasting.

- The scrolling SMS Messages annoy the CRAP out of me. Stop it!

That is all :)

Welcome to the forum. ;)

Not many people know this but it wasn't the actual celebrity herself that replied. Her personal assistant, which is not human, by law, replied to these messages. The actual celebrity is held in containment tanks submersed in velvet-like liquid whilst being fed Lindt Chocolate until it's time for the next show.

Also, celebrities have expiry dates under their left-feet.

These facts are all true. I made them up myself, that way I know their true!

She does stumble at times.

Dude...once again that's why a presenter needs to look pleasing to the eye. It takes focus off the rest of the senses. Heck, Nigella could burn the kitchen to a crisp and I wouldn't know!
