Ok, this is going to be quite a long reply...
@Tinman - yeah I also can't wrap my head around still having two different names for the show. PlayR was first (one night a week), then along came The Verge (every night) but didn't merge them ... weirdos.
@Octoboi - Gametrailers only have a very few trailers that are their exclusives. The rest are released by the game publishers and everyone has access to them. I think in the Verges case, it's laziness, so they just grab where it's the least hassle to grab from.
PlayR is a part of The Verge, which is both a show and a weekly slot. It's an international show as opposed to a locally produced one, we do the revoicing etc.
Wouldn't they require rights or something to say pull videos off Gametrailers.com... those videos are always nice quality (even the SD 1s)
We get a lot of our videos from GameTrailers, or directly from the publishers themselves, NOT off YouTube. The quality of the videos is good so its either the ways its broadcast off dstv or its your tv.
You can usually get them from a variety of sources. And as far as I know, Gametrailers do not own the content that they publish, the videos belong to the creators.
True. But again, we have access to files from the publishers as well.
Whats she going to do? Rock up here and defend the failings of the k@K show she hosts? Cybernet was a decent gaming show back in the day and it only had a sexy female voice.
I avoid gaming shows as their normally K@K. The presenter rarely have an proper understanding of the game or its mechanics and context. Reminicent of Ktv and the stupid questions they ask when someone talks about a game.
TV + Idiot Presenter + Games = Fail.
I'll rock up, but I dont have to take you seriously, or I can say what I say to people whenever we get comments like this - if you dont like it dont watch. If you dont like my voice, or the way I look, nothing I can do about that. I have a very good understanding of games and the way they're made actually, but you're going to think whatever you want regardless of what I say.
As far as I understand The Verge presenter knows quite a bit about gaming, and actually lectures digital animation in gaming at Wits...or something.
I have not watched the show in a while as I canceled my DSTV subscription. I didnt get much value out of it as the news was never as current as online, and they reviewed stuff like Wheelman, which leads me to believe that they are going for the mainstream, which is totally cool but explains why gamers are all moaning.
The truth is that they are part of a very big food chain, and I don't think that they have that much freedom in deciding what they cover. There is so much going on behind the scenes that affects the content on a TV show because it is considered 'big media'.
TBH, the show really is not aimed at you guys. It targets a massive audience that is not online or informed. My 13 year old brother watches it. It needs to target that audience to be viable.
Have they sorted out their video quality?
Thanks. And although no we dont target 13 year old specifically (I saw a reply of that nature) we do target a larger audience than just the kinds of people posting on this thread.
I wonder how she would react to this thread
*shrugs*
I reckn the verge will be taken off air.
We're currently the highest rated show on the channel. Perhaps that will change. Perhaps not.
Right. Thank you for your time - keep watching - or don't

And yes, always room for constructive criticism... As an aside there is a very very very very long thread about this on
PS3ZA if you're interested... Oh! And thanks for the invite to the forum
