Threats by commuters to burn down the Gautrain are "absurd", Gauteng transport and roads MEC Ismail Vadi said on Monday.

"In a country where costly transport infrastructure development has taken centre stage in the National Development Plan, it will be absolutely absurd to threaten to destroy existing transport and rail infrastructure," Vadi said in a statement.

Huh? How did this MEC manage to miss the last 10+ years of similar threats? And announcing that they are absurd will probably just piss off the people doing the threatening.

He said the transport department did not do a proper needs analysis for the majority of South Africans when it invested in the Gautrain.

How quaint. Needs analysis...haha. If the government did even a cursory analysis of needs when committing billions then we wouldn't be stuck with a bunch of submarines, frigates and combat jets...

Speaking of jets, I remember being told that the USA was willing to retire a fleet of fighter jets to SA with maintenance and pilot training so we could help out in Africa for free. One of those deals were they supply us and in return we keep the peace, instead the ANC went and purchased from the Russians or whoever made our un-maintained paper weights.
