Time was a cruel mistress to these 15 games

Use the word aesthetics rather than graphics. :)

Aesthetics being the creative choices about how the game looks, which includes everything from character models, environment to the UI. Graphics being the technical capability of a game.

Good graphics gives the designers more tools to work with in creating the aesthetics of a game, doesn't mean they'll know how to use those tools properly.

I think that's the best way to put.

I played through the Original Half Life for the first time about a month ago, once I got over the lo-res textures I found myself getting absorbed into the game, I can see why it's a classic. Looking forward to Black Mesa though:

I wonder just how much effort it would be to take some of those old games, keep the storylines but update them with modern graphics - after all the complaints about D3, I wonder how people would feel about D2 but with D3 textures (same for all the others mentioned here - after all, the kids of today didn't ever get a chance to those old classics, why would they not enjoy them the way we did)
